Talon: The New #1 Invert?

Soggy's avatar
Looking at just the stats (and a few killer construction pics) Talon actually has a 1 foot taller (ok, not that big of a deal) drop than Raptor. We all know that bigger does not necessarily mean better, but the stats speak for themselves.

The Question: Will Talon replace Raptor as the #1 rated inverted coaster?

I have a feeling that even if it gives a better ride, not enough people will ride it. At least not compared to Raptor, allowing Raptor to keep the #1 rated inverted coaster title.

Wait a second, who ever said that Raptor was better then Batman the Ride. I've never been on Raptor before, but Batman's intense and has kick*****theming, so I think that Batman defeats Raptor.

As with all of these discussions, we really need to wait until the ride opens to know for sure. Even then it's going to be a matter of opinion.

I love Batman, but it's just a fuzz too short for my tastes. I love Alpengeist, but it's too long in the giant inversions. Raptor is that middle ground.

I suspect that Talon might be the sleeper hit of the season. It's a little shorter than Raptor, and without the mid-course brake to break-up the pacing, I think it's a sure winner. It's all about pacing, in my opinion, and this one is sure to hit you with one element after another. Not too fast, not too slow. I think Walter and Claude have outdone themselves this time.

and as always when Walter rides it he'll say,
"This is favorite one that I have designed so far"
or something to that effect, he always does.
;)

And Jeff when you are talking about sleeper hits don't forget about WILDFIRE!

hmmm...the reason Talon won't be as good as the Raptor is because it has a swooping first drop...like all b&m inverteds...minus the Raptor, which is why the Raptor takes the cake with me...

Uh... what do you call Raptor's drop? You're half way down it before you straighten out. The mother of all drops of this type belongs to Alpengeist, but all of the B&M inverts that I've been on have that outstanding quality in the back outside seat as you get yanked around that drop. A great sensation!

There was a thread a little while back about the best drop on an inverted coaster, and hardly anyone mentioned Alpengeist. Though I've never been on it, it looks to be the greatest of the ones I've seen.

Weird, I can't stand Alpengeist's drop. It was the second worst inverted drop I've done (Batman is worse). I guess the lift trim was on too hard? It didn't have any redeeming qualities, IMO.

But you're right about most all inverteds having a great drop from the back. Raptor, Fire Dragon, Ice Dragon, Great Bear, Montu all have excellent first drops, usually being the only types of coasters to give me that funky "tummy tickler" feeling. I hope B&M come out with some more bunny hops as seen on Fire Dragon. That's one great element!

I like Raptor's the best. Great Bear's drop is truly wierd and very fun. Alpie I felt was a little too fast. Legendary, it doesn't come from the tummy, it comes from somewhere else.............. :)

Hey a Relient-K reference! I have that CD!

Even after doing both Dragons at IOA, Batman at SFGAm and Alpengiest, I still dig Raptor most of all.
As for drops, Top Gun: The Jetcoaster at Carowinds is INCREDIBLY twisted, steep, and fast. I wouldn't even compare Alpengeist and Raptor to it hehe. Appearantly someone liked it because Talon's drop is identical to Top Gun's; it is a little taller though yet somehow slower. I think Talon will be like Top Gun, great ride but just because it isn't at CP, SF, or BG it won't get the recognition it deserves.
I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a dud like Great Bear.
Well, the only B&M invert I've been on is Alpengeist and it is currently my #1 coaster. If all these other ones are better than Alpengeist, I say COOL! Can't wait to ride 'em all...

I can't say if it will be better because i haven't ridden it. If it rides intense like Batman then it will be better.

#1: Millennium Force
#2: Raging Bull
#3: Tie B:TR/Raptor
#4: Viper (SFGAm)
#5: Goliath/Magnum
Let's not forget about Dueling Dragons, those are my pick for the best invert currently. Fire dragon is the most intense invert out there, and Ice has great pacing.

hey korn! Whaasssuuupp! Havent seen ya for a while. Anyway, I have to disagree, Fire (the more intense of the twain IMO) is still not quite as intense as B:TR to me. Fire is a better ride, but it doesnt have that non-stop intensity, partly because of the head-on duel. If you're not in the front, the lead up to that part just seems dead. And IMO Fire is best experience in the back.

As for Talon, it looks to be fantastic. Even though it doesnt have all the elements of Top Gun (carowinds; my favorite invert) it looks pretty tight; especially with the trench!

What's up Hostyl, since school started I haven't been able to get online too much, but we just took our mid-terms and the rest of the year should be pretty laid back(Final Fntasy 9 has also taken over my life), so I'm gonna be posting much more now. Anyway back to coasters, I totally forgot about B:TR and I would have to say that it does get in as slightly higher than the Fire Dragon. Just a tad more intense than Fire.

To me, the Dragons had a horrible drop. After he drop though, I thought orange was a good ride. I thought blue was a little meek. Batman is a great ride but I agree with many of you, it is too short. I think Serial Thriller at SFO was a great invert. I don't know where Talon would rank among these, it will have to be ridden first.

See you in 2001 for twice the fun (hint, hint)
I'll be at Dorney opening day so look for my TR somtime after midninght. Hopefully Talon won't have as many problems as the Wild Mouse did opening day. The mouse was down every half hour or so.
