Sympathies Please! Australia's coaster collection

Actually the topic is "Sympathies Please! Australia's Coaster Collection Sucks!" There wasn't enough space for that.

You guys are soooo lucky! Down Under's coaster collection is dismal. Can you believe there are no B&M coasters here at all!! These are the major coasters we have;

Sydney Parks;
-Wonderland. My local park.
--Demon, 1988 Vekoma Boomerang.
--Bush Beast, 1985 KEC Woodie. (Clone of PKD?'s Grizzly).
--Luna Park Big Dipper, 1995 Arrow SD. SBNO.

Gold Coast Parks. 1 hour flight north of Sydney.
--Warner Bros Movie World's Lethal Weapon, 1995 Vekoma SLC.
--Seaworld's Corkscrew. 1988? Arrow Loop Corkscrew.
-Dreamworld.
--Thunderbolt, 1988? Meisho Double Looper.
--Tower of Terror, 1998 380' tall Intamin LSM Reverse Freefall.

7 major coasters??? @#$%#!!! You guys are probably laughing at me. I hope some of you sympathise with me and understand my frustration!

For those who think I'm a whiner, at least I've a good reason to do so! I hope you appreciate what you got!! :-)

Scotland doesn't have any!
What about this one from the Oldest Coaster thread?

Scenic Railway 1912 Luna Park, Melbourne, Australia

Second oldest in the world. Not too shabby.

besides, B&M's are overrated ;)
Stop crying and go to Bondi Beach.
Ok, I'll trade Bondi Beach for your coaster collection! :-)

Yeah, at least we have the Scenic Railway, T.o.T and its companion, 'Giant Drop', the world's tallest freefall ride at 390ft though that's not a coaster obviously!

I'll trade you a B&M floorless for that 390ft freefall ride.
Would you trade SFMW's Medusa for Giant Drop?

I'll trade you all the B&M's in the U.S. for Ayers Rock ;)
LOL!! :-)

Why would you? I bet to put several coasters on it!

For those who don't know what Ayer's Rock is, it's the world's largest rock/monlith. It's located in the middle of Australia, a great big red rock plonk in the middle of the flat outback (shrub desert)!

It's 1000ft high, 1 mile wide, 1.5 miles long and 5 miles around the base. Imagine a coaster that swarms all over it!

What a desecration that would be!

I love coasters but natural wonders beat them out every time!
I'll put it inside the rock! Nah, i'm joking of course.

How about a coaster that traverses the Grand Canyon!! :-)

Plus, you can have my collection!

A coaster is about the only thing you can't find at the Grand Canyon. Oh the commercialization! Seriously though, Going down that trail on a mule is a lot scarier then any coaster I've ever been on!
How about a giant Vekoma Hammerhead Stall to get from one side of the canyon to the other?

Why is Luna Park's Big Dipper SBNO?
Upon opening, the Dipper made all the news for a week or so. The freaking residents of the apartment buildings behind the park complained about the noise! All the media attention was focused on this old fart of a woman who rallied up the residents against the park. Luna park was forced to close. It's now only open on weekends with the Dipper running on Saturdays only, am not sure if it's still running or not. A great shame as the park's been there since the 1930's I think and is of historical value. Luna Park was actually closed before the Dipper was built for years as it used to have a ghost train which caught on fire and 7 or was it 12? (Mainly kids) people died on it in the 1970s.

Engineers tried to reduce the noise by only allowing one train of six cars of four. Didn't help and very poor capacity. It cost A$7million (US$5-6million in 1995)!

The Dipper has a sidewinder (half corkscrew/half loop) and a loop behind a building which suprises a lot of people who ride it.

There've been reports in the paper every now and then about the park. One company wanted to pull out everything and build an indoor ski slope. Another wanted to demolish the Dipper and build other rides.

I was in the Olympic Band in the Opening Ceremonies this year. We stayed in Bathurst and drove to Sydney. I didn't actually ride any rides or go to a park, but we did drve by Wonderland every day and I did get to see the Bush Beast nearly every day. Absolutely wonderful country, but if that was the tallest woodie, or only woodie in the country, you are right. More coasters in "The Land Down Under"

SP we hardly knew Ye
Hey ya'll I say Howdy
Save Idora Park
Guess what? The Bush Beast, at 90ft, is the biggest woodie in the Southern Hemisphere! Those words are painted in large text on a wall in the station. I don't know if that still applies today what with parks in South America etc.

Other woodies are the Beastie, Wonderland's junior woodie and the Scenic Railway at Luna Park Melbourne. There are no woodies at Dreamworld and the rest of the Gold Coast Theme Parks.

Rally on fellow coaster lovers! :-)
