Sydney Royal Easter Show

Associated parks:
None

Sunday 8 April Report. Since the completion of the Olympic site at Homebush, the show has been held there every year for Easter. It previously used to be at the old showgrounds behind the CBD at Moore Park which is now 20th Century Fox Studios Sydney (Haven't been on the Backlot Tour which is a small version of Movieworld and has no coasters).

The main showground is the Baseball Stadium and exhibition halls used for other sports show off huge displays of food arranged to look like paintings etc.

Then there is the Fun Fair. There is a big Ferris Wheel which has a permanent A-Frame. This year they have Mad Mouse (Wooden Wild Mouse) and Galaxy Rollercoaster (Portable of same name). Bugger, as at the old showground they used to have the Python Loop, a Pinfari Compact Looper. Other regular rides are Ranger (Double Inverter), Pirate Boat (Non-inverting swinging ship), Zipper, Chaos, Splash Canyon (Portable flume ride), Gravitron, Haunted Mansion, Ghost Train etc.

Rainbow is great fun, it's a Huss Flying Island (Dunno what it's called) and has airtime. Since I haven't been to the show for a few years, there are several new rides. Hangover (Double Suspended Inverter like Aero 360) which was a blast, better than the Ranger as there's nothing in front of ya as with the Ranger, you sit in a cage. Going forwards, it's like going through the loop of a Floorless over and over! Mega Mix, where you sit in a traditional centrifuge, like the one that tilts like 60 degrees, only this one rises up and flips the wheel over like a Gyroscope. Insane! Claw, which consists of six B&M Inverted style cars arranged in a hexagon that spins. Then tilts back and rotates the whole assembly. Absolutely nuts!

This is all next to the Brick Pit, a massive rock quarry & a Floorless in it would be awesome, like SKC.

Photos to be developed & posted soon. Stay tuned in Buzzers!

I was at the Royal Easter Show last year and the place was crazy. I was visiting my Sister who lives in Deewai. Although there was heaps of rides, we were there for the Showbags! Would've loved to be there this year but I promised my nieces Disneyland in September so DL it is!
Great TR!

G'day Kiwi neighbour! Yep, the Show was crazy and I got the Cadbury Chocolate Show Bag :) You mean Dee Why. That's just 15mins from where I live.

DL? You gonna go to CA? Whereabouts in NZ do you live? Have you been on the Coca Cola Rollercoaster at Rainbow's End & done all the NZ Extreme Sports? Bungee Jumping, Fly-By-Wire, etc?

Sorry about all the q's! :)

Yeah Dee Why didnt know how to spell it!

Im hailing from Wellington, fly-by-wire is about 15 minutes from home but I havent tried it yet but Ive done most of the Bungys and their variants.

As for DL,I went twice last year and have been watching DCA go up so my pilgrimmage is for that this year ... add X and DejaVu at the Mountain not to mention some more righteous rides on Goliath and Ghostrider. Life will almost be complete in 2001!

I have heard the ride prices this year have gone up, and are rediculously high.

Yep. :( All the rides now accept tokens only. The follwing prices are in Aussie Dollars; 90c per token, (Forgot how many tokens $10 & $20 buys), $30 - 39 tokens and $50 - 70 tokens. I opted out for the $50 thinking that's best value for money & am gonna ride all the new rides. Not! I'm not big on Spin & Pukes & scalped the remaining tokens. All the big rides were 5 or 6 tokens & at 90c/t, that's $4.50 or $5.40 a ride! What a rip-off!

I think people are realising that (the rides anyway)are no longer value for money and are opting for alternative options such as the themeparks. People also don't feel safe on "Carnival" rides esp due to the recent accidents.
Don't ask me what took so long, I've finally put up 5 photos from the show! See them here; www.zing.com/album/?id=4292564997
Hasn't anyone seen my photos? :( Comments would be really appreciated.
