Surrounding Cedar Point Hotels

I dont know if this is a topic that cannot be talked about, but I will give it a shot.

Ok, this summer we really dont have much to spend, but we are still making it out to Cedar Point. Last year we stayed at Port Clinton in Comfort Inn, pretty nice, but 20 miles away. This year, we want a cheap, but nice, hotel in Sandusky, about 5 miles from CP. So, we are thinking about Clarion Inn, close to the mall. Is this a nice hotel? And what about Dusk to Dawn motel, is it nice, i know it is very cheap. 2 Double beds at $36 a night, thats great prices. So, which one would you prefer?

I've always enjoyed camping in Sandusky. Pitch a tent, that's cheap! lol.

I think I have stayed at that hotel. I've never had a bad hotel around the mall area. But, now I always stay at the Breakers Express. Last year I got a group rate for early June: $40 per four person room! (If you have a large group and call early, CP has unbeatable deals)

In the past few times going to CP, I haven't stayed overnight. Of course I have the option to stay or just go home being that I live just two hours away (Youngstown Rocks!). But I think I might want to stay this time (2 nights!). ~I want to hit Dragster when the line is just starting to form.

This is somewhat off subject, but still pertaining to hotels. Why don't a bunch of us get together for a group rate during Coastermania. Or does something like this already go on and I should feel like a moron.

Yes, I'm a newbie. Flame away.
jkpark, i live very close to you, in McDonald. But anyway, the only time I have ever stayed in hotels when I go to CP is for CoasterMania and next year for CoasterCon I definitely will. I have stayed at the Clarion Inn once and it was nice, like a Holiday Inn. I have also stayed at Radisson Harbour Inn but it is more expensive of a hotel so you may not want that. Hope that helps!

Well it sure is a small world SWIMDEJ. Have you been to www.idorapark.org? They're selling Idora Park window stickers!

I stayed in the Comfort Inn maybe 10 minutes fromt he park before the underpass on the way to the mall. It was really nice and really crowded, but the arcade was nice :).

About the cheapest "chain" is probably the Rodeway on Milan Rd. - and it shows. It's pretty beat up, but will function on a budget . You can typically get a room there for less than $50.

The Clarion is great. My husband and I have season passes to CP and we only stay at the Clarion. It's clean, reasonalby priced, and has an indoor pool also. It's not the fanciest hotel in town, but it suits our needs just fine!
I have another motel quesion. This motel doesn't look like the nicest, but it is by far the cheapest. It is the Dusk to Dawn Motel on Milan Road. Last year we were thinking about staying here, but we wanted smething a little nicer for our first visit. So.... does anybody know anything about this hotel? It was newly rennovated and looks kindly nice, but is the pool nice, rooms, is there a game room? Thanks.

Dusk to Dawn? I have heard mixed reviews. Bottom line is that you won't be in the room all that much so even if it ain't great, so what? Best part...it is pretty close to Tofts Ice Cream!!! Don't miss that.
I would actually say Breakers. It is on-site, right next to the beach and you get into the park a 1/2 early. I booked it for my visit. I t was 59$.

SFGADvMan...

$59 at Breakers? When are you going? I couldn't find a price under $140...

EDIT: Are you sure you didn't get a reservation at Breakers Express? If so, it is not "on property" and you have to drive to the park (granted it's a short drive up the causeway) and pay for parking as they do not have a shuttle.

Dusk To Dawn is an *awful* motel. Yes, it's cheap... it's also filthy. The rooms smell like a mix between kitty litter and bleach. And, it's not just a minor annoyance... it's an overpowering odor that I promise you, you don't want to deal with.

My choice for a cheap stay? The Days Inn right across from the Sandusky Mall. It's slightly more expensive than Dusk To Dawn, but the rooms are lightyears ahead as far as cleanliness and comfort.

I stayed at The Gull Motel in Huron back in 1998. It's an old place, but not bad. They have FREE donuts in the morning, plus it's only a couple miles east of the chausee entrance. ; -)

We stayed at that Days Inn during CM last year, and at a *nice* place down the road a couple miles the year before. Forget the name of it, it was past the mall, but the indoor pool was great...

...the lack of shuttles IS quite impressive, considering....is that because CP wouldn't allow it, or do the hotels just not see the need?

Super 8 motel just off the Ohio Turnpike on Rte 250 was pretty nice. Clean, comfortable, and about $52 for 2 double beds. Takes about 10 minutes to get to the park from there.
