Surfing Speed

I was wondering if the server is too busy and can't handle the traffic this site is bringing in. Recently, when I have been on the site it moves slow, and on other sites its fast. Its not my internet connection because I have DSL.

Well, I don't KNOW for sure if it's congestion (or something else) at CoasterBuzz, but as someone who works for a company that looks at this kind of stuff every day, I can say that just because site Z is slow while sites A-Y are fast, doesn't necessarily mean that the problem is AT site Z.

 

The ways of Internet Routing are mysterious (actually, they're not if you're on the right side of things, but...)  Beware BGP tables, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

 

 

Um, oh, anyway, my point was that traffic problems come and go, and it MAY not necessarily be CoasterBuzz that's having the problems here, but rather your route TO it.  I haven't noticed much in the way of problems myself.

CoasterBuzz is connected directly to Sprint's backbone. Most people I've talked to on decent ISP's are less than 15 hops for the server, and that ain't bad. The connection the server is on has never been maxed out, and generally hovers around 15% utilization (meaning traffic could increase by a factor of six and not max out).

As Greg said, routing can be a total mystery and can frequently be the source of many problems.

It traced 14 hops to Coasterbuzz. Sometimes it's fast, sometimes it's slow; that's the internet for ya! I particularly find it humoring that even TechTV lags while they are browsing the web on TV. I love it when they try to fill time while the page takes forever to load...
