Superman: Krypton Coaster

SKC is the only floorless I have ridden. It is by far one of the most exciting coasters I have experienced. It would be an excellent ride even if it were in another location. But the location really makes the ride more intense. Definitely a top ten ride.
The layout can be found at Latincoasters.com, a spannish site - If you can't read spannish I sugesst you look at Coaster Force.com, which has permission to use a few of those pictures, they are under the feature "krypton Coaster at Movie World"
(I know this is plugging my site but please don't deleted this - it is a DIRECT answer to someones question and I would'nt say it if someone didnt ask! If anything - I'm advertising the Spannish site)
SKC is an awesome coaster, although whoever dubbed the small helix followed by the second drop a "dive loop" should be shot. I've ridden every B&M coaster in Florida, so I know what a REAL dive loop is, and SKC does NOT have a dive loop! I'd have to rate Kraken slightly higher than SKC though. It may not be quite as fast as SKC, but it has a REAL dive loop, giving it an extra inversion over SKC, and the landscaping of Kraken is beautiful. Lush tropical foliage, two waterfalls, and a gorgeous lake. The only scenery that SKC has going for it are the cliff walls. The plants look dead, and the water looks murky. Kraken's scenery is like an oasis. SKC's scenery is more like a swamp. Texas seems to have a knack for making even the most awesome rides seem pathetic. We may have the fastest floorless in the world, but it's one of only two floorless coasters in existence to feature LESS than 7 inversions! And as if that weren't bad enough, there still aren't ANY 7 inversion coasters in this state! Here I am in Houston, the 4th largest city in the nation, located in the 2nd largest state in the union, and the ONLY state with THREE Six Flags parks in it, and not one of them has a single 7 inversion coaster of any kind! Florida has FOUR different types of them, and Texas doesn't even have ONE! I think there's something seriously WRONG with that! But of course I'm used to it. The biggest and best almost always get built somewhere else anymore, and you can bet your life that no record breaker, one-of-a-kind, or first-of-its-kind will EVER be built in Houston again, unless Six Flags finally has the decency to sell AstroWorld to a company that will actually take care of it, instead of just letting it degenerate to a state of near condemnation, the way that Six Flags has done ever since they bought the place! I thought that being purchased by Six Flags was the best thing that could possibly happen to the park, but in reality it seems to be the WORST thing that ever happened to it! Before it was owned by Six Flags, it was one of the best amusement parks in the world. Now it's one of the worst, and it looks like as long as it's owned by Six Flags, it always will be! If Six Flags corporate could stop obsessing over spoiling Magic Mountain to filth for just one second, Texas might have a chance at regaining some of its former glory, and maybe, just maybe, this state would LOOK like the birthplace of the Six Flags chain, instead of looking like one of their junkyards! We may have quite a few world class rides here, but most of them totally SUCK compared to the world class rides of the rest of the world! But enough complaining for now. I would agree that Kumba is one of the best mega-loopers in the world, and it may even be THE best, but "The mother of all mega-loopers"? Shouldn't that title go to Dragon Khan? I know that Kumba was built first, but Dragon Khan has 8 inversions, and Kumba only has 7 inversions. It would seem that the more inversions a mega-looper has, the better it should be, don't you think?

no, not at all. quantity does not equal quality in any way, shape, or form.

When I said that Kumba was the "mother of all mega loopers, I was referring to the fact that it paved the way to what we see being built today. It is a great coaster, but I will still say that S:KC is better. Let me qualify that, especially since terrain and landscaping has come into the discussion. Kraken supposedly came from the sea, hence the lush tropical landscaping, as for S:KC, I think the terrain fits the bill, well, the best that it can considering Superman came from an ice planet, and there isn't too much ice in Texas lol As for the additional dive loop on Kraken, I like what they did with S:KC since when you look at the layout, it fits with the theming. Look at it this way, if you were Superman, flying around those quarry walls, you would probably want to spin around a little on top of the walls and get a good look at what's below. I know that's kind of far fetched, but it's just my opinion. But I will concede and say they could probably plant a few trees down below and it would spruce things up a little.

The reason I said I like the scenery is because I am really into desert style scenery. I love the quarry, the cacti, the dead plants and dirt...sorry if our opinions differ. Plus, like I said, I would much rather have that cool small helix and second drop over an inversion anyday. I stick to my story! :) *** This post was edited by saviourmachine on 6/12/2001. ***
I went on BKF Sunday in the front row and let me tell you, the front row has quite a floorless effect. It made the rde 5x better than in the middle. And about the mother of all mega-loopers, shouldn't it go to Shockwave at SFGAm? It was the first coaster with 7 inversions.

Bull rides:41
Batman rides:33
Then why not the PKI vortex? it was the first with 6.

I won't argue with you SFGA about Shockwave or ravenguy either about Vortex, those are very valid points. But what I will say is this....I don't see Arrow building anymore mega-loopers at this point. It's almost as if B&M has a corner on the market. Undoubtedly though, that is because they are honestly the best coasters out there, particularly in the smoothness of their rides. If Arrow could only figure out that little gap they leave between the guide and upstop wheels, that could possibly change, but until then, B&M rules the roost, so to speak. And let's not forget those uncomfortable Arrow OTSR! B&M seems to have mastered that art as well.
