Superman - Ride of Steel

ok.....3 of them, all at Six Flags parks.....they all look different. Am I correct when I say they are not clones of each other? can anyone compare/contrast the 3 rides as I've not been on any of them yet.

2 of them are clones as B:TR and B:TR SFStL are. Mirror images. I forget which 2 are clones, though.
SFA and SFDL are clones; SFNE is a different design (and much better, or so I hear).

Superman:RoS@SFA is an exceptional ride. I can't wait till next year to ride the one in New England.

ah....thank you......I think on closer picture inspection the clones are Darien Lake and
SFAmerica. That's the layout I want to go on! Helix a-go-go!!!!!

Actually, from what I've heard, the SFDL is better than SFA's for location/placement reasons.  I know SFNE's is supposed to be the best of all, with tunnels, etc.  But having ridden only SFA's, all I can say is...YES!!!!  MF doesn't do squat in comparison for me...we're talking AIR-TIME on these puppies....

The ones at SFA & SFDL are mirror images of each other. I haven't been on either of those, but I have been on the one at SFNE many, many times. Let me tell you, it is the best ride on the planet (yes, I've ridden MF). It's layout is completely unique, with an out-and-back beginning and a twister finish. It has all of the elements a great coaster should have: height, speed, airtime up the wazoo, positive g's, and tunnels. If while riding it you concentrate on the airtime, you realize that it is absolutely ridiculous. I've counted 15-18 seconds of airtime throughout the ride Fortunately, I get to ride it quite often, since it's at my home park. Also, next year's small B&M is going to be a great compliment to SROS, so come on up in 2002! Not too many of you though, it's too crowded already.

By the way Liz, SFNE's has a double helix also, it's just not as obvious as the others in pictures. They certainly pack a punch though.

The SROS at SFNE....IS THEEE HYPERCOASTER EXPERIENCE. The other 2 clones have a design that seems to slow the ride down alot, I mean in 2000 the one at SFDL trains valleyed on the bunny hill cause of its slow speed. The SROS at SFNE goes at least 40 miles per hour into the brake pad. What Im trying to say is RIDE THE SFNE VERSION. You wont regret it.

thanks, Z-Man, that makes me happy, and thanks to all for the great information.
Time to put SFNE on my travel list!

I was at SFA post-PPP with six other enthusiasts.  None of us had been to SFA before and five of us had ridden SFNE's version previously.  We all agreed that while SFNE's Supes has the better layout and overall better experience the SFA version has the better single moment of extreme, sustained ejector air:  third hill, just after the first helix, front of the train.

AFAIC both versions [and I assume the SFDL version] are all knock-outs and a great addition to any park.  Too bad SFOG ain't getting one in 2002....hee hee hee.

THE DARIEN LAKE SEEMS TO HAVE MORE AIRTIME AND A BETTER LOCATION THAN SFA'S. OF COURSE THE ONE AT SFNE IS THE BEST OF THE THREE, FIVE TIMES BETTER THAN MILLINIUM FORCE.

I have been fortunate enough to ride 4 of the Superman attractions.

S:ROS - SFDL, S:ROS - SFA, S:ROA - SFNE, S:UE - SFWOA

The version at SFNE easily ranks as my favorite steel coaster.  I have yet to hear a bad word about it.  I really like the SFDL version as well, and I rode it prior to the SFA version.  Because I did the SFDL version first, I am a bit more preferential to it.

SFNE's stands on it's own merit since it is an original design and layout. (Which I personally hope is not duplicated.)

The SFDL opened prior to the SFA version as far as I can recollect, so I would call the SFA a clone.

It indeed is a mirror version of the SFDL ride, but with one notable feature I believe no one here has mentioned.  It is not 200' tall.  I believe it stands at like 198' or such because of height restriactions in the SFA area.  The SFDL version stands over 200'.

Other than that, the layouts are the same, one to the left of the lift hill one to the right.

Maybe so, but I don't think that SFOG fans will have much to complain about come spring 2002!

No question, SFNE's is the best.

SFNE is "the best" of them all... Even though SFDL's is only ranked one below SFNE's on my top steel coaster list, there is NO comparison....

...and yes, that is smoke/mist coming out of the (two) tunnels :).

I counted 13 spots of Airtime on SFNE's version :)

Rob:  I totally agree that SFOG fans *should* have nothing to complain about -- but some will anyway.  My "hee hee hee" was because in another forum [B&M parts at SFOG] there are many who are convinced the park's 02 coaster is from Intamin.
