Straight talk on X's future: the real deal

Jeff's avatar

I thought I'd share a little bit of info regarding X at Magic Mountain. Contrary to all of the rumors you've heard, there are actually a few good reasons for the downtime. My info is from People Who Know(TM), and you know I'm not one to spread rumors.

Yes, there were some weld problems on the X trains. The problem was not the engineering, but rather poor welding of certain parts by a third-party vendor. It's not Arrow's or Six Flags' fault per se.

The word on the street is that they hope to have the ride in full swing within two weeks or so.

Let the rumors rest.

I really hope thats the reason! thanks Jeff, you run a good and clean site! Your always the man to count on!
That is awesome news. I was going to kill someone if it wouldn't open by late July cause that's when we're going on our trip to Knotts and Sfmm. I hope its still running when I go though and not be closed all day.

Top 5:
5) S:ros Sfdl 4) Raptor 3) Apollos Chariot 2) Magnum
1) Millennium Force

Thanks! Glad to hear it's nothing serious. I knew it wasn't.

It's his turn to feast, when you ride the Son of Beast.

i guess this puts to rest that rumor that someone was injured on the ride when he hit the track.
Great news Jeff! Especially for those who have their travel plans in the works. Sad for those out here for the CoasterCon as they're going to miss it.

Hopefully things will be worked out and this will solve the ongoing problems. Any word if this is going to take care of one train or both of them?

Sometimes it's up. Sometimes it's down.
But with God, life is one thrill ride that you'll never regret being on.

dont you love how rumors snowball?!?! its amazing. i believe 9/10 of what i see and 1/10 of what i hear. its completely ignorant to believe rumors.

Welds can make a hell of a world of difference on anything. When I worked for NYB where I lived, we high speed tested the blower wheels. What we did was put the wheel into a housing into the floor and spun the wheel 4 times faster than what it the install specs wanted. If the welds were poor, the wheel would explode and make a hell of a noise. If you were anywhere close to the lab, you could feel the floor shake when one of these exploded. A very good solid weld looks kinda like a piece of decorative molding that connects the top of a wall and ceiling. If the weld is poor it looks like a mass of gum chewed up and pressed on a surface.

stoogemanmoe and places to get discount Six Flags Great America tickets!

Smooth welds are vital indeed. Thank you Jeff for stepping in. I can sleep tonight, and every other night from now until my SFMM visit in July! Keeping fingers crossed.....I just think everyone got caught up in the company's financial whirlwind right now (should I say Vortex? LMAO), and since the ride has had trouble, it doesn't surprise me that some assume everything has gone to crap.

~Santa Cruz Trip Report just added with lots of pix!

I just returned from vacation and spent the last two days at Magic Mountain. The information I was given directly from six flags was that it was the computer and the ride would possibly be down for the rest of the month maybe longer. No rumors here this is just what I was told at the entrance to X. Needless to say I can’t wait to ride, I was looking forward to it on my trip down there.

.....great website

JEFF ROCKS!

COASTERS ROLL!

This lame post was brought to you by Aaron (thats me).

Yes I do work for the site www.greatamericanthrills.com. Thanx for asking!

Well I think it will be a bit longer than two weeks, but I realize more than ever what drama queens enthusiasts are. Most of us would rather believe the most negative information than to wait for 'correct' information.

I think alot of the harshest rumors were started by wishful thinkers who want VERY much for the ride to fail. Too bad...

"Escuse me, can you tell me where the heck the Mystery Lodge is"?

YES! EXCELLENT news

Hello everyone!
I am getting ready to head to the airport and fly out to LA for the Con!!
I have heard so many conflicting things on X that I don't know what to believe. Of course with forums you can only take what people say with a grain of salt. There have been many times where I have gone to a park thinking that the ride was closed but it actually wasn't, and vise versa.
Anyway, I am still holding out for the possibility of X being open for the ERT's, but if it's closed then there is nothing you can do about it.
This will be my first trip to MM, Knott's, and Adventure City there will be enough coasters to keep me busy. I am also going to California's Adventure.
If I got one little ride on X I will be VERY happy, but if I don't oh well. Bummer.
Let's just hope miracles arise and the bugs will be worked out very soon.
For those of you going to the Con........see you in line!

Oh Yeah,

It was the "welds", wink, wink, nudge, nudge. from a third party no less....Not the engineering... Arrows not a fault, just bad 3rd party welds, lots of them, on all the chassis, and not one was caught by the weld inspectors or NDT and all the repair welds over the last year were bad too...Sounds BELIEVABLE! ...anyone smell a Rat here?
