Storm Runner Grand Opening!

Hey everyone!

I just got off the phone with a Hershey employee (call 1-800-HERSHEY if ya dont believe me) and I asked her when Storm Runner will be opening. She told me that it was this Thursday!!!! (5-6-04)!!! I find that a little odd, seeing as how grand opening for the park is on Friday (the 7th) but, man, I thought it wasn't going to be open for a few more weeks let alone two days from now!

There is also a short teaser commercial that I've seen on tv many times. There is (can't remember the name) but a north, south, east, and west thing on top of a roof with a horse on top that starts spinning and looks like it's catching on fire (there is also a storm approaching at this time). Then it zooms out and they show the logo. There's also some cool music that they played, it'd be nice to hear it in the queue.

By the way, I'm new here (^_^)

Can't wait for this thing!!

it's called a weather vane. And welcome to CBuzz ;)
LOL Moosh!...and welcome to coasterbuzz also.....

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

The original media day had been moved back to May 26th (I think) a few weeks ago when they were getting a lot of rain and such. I guess they just got their butts in gear and got everything all worked out and now it's back to opening when it was originally planned to. Not too surprising though. There have been videos up of the ride testing for quite some time now...

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

I was invited to the media day on May 24, and they have actually rescheduled it for Thursday May 6. The weather here has been pretty good for the most part, and Storm Runner has been testing and running very well.

They have been announcing the grand opening to the public this Saturday May 8, but you never know it may be open on Friday, May 7.

I'll have a full trip report, and pictures. I can't wait to ride! I'll also be there this Saturday for the beginning of the day if anyone is planning on visiting over the weekend let me know. I'd like to meet some more buzzers.

I want to make it out to Dorney Saturday to get my season pass processed, and hang out with reverend Cliff Herring for a while. He's a great guy.

Ok that's the last time I listen to you people, I already cancelled my hotel reservation and all my friends are doing other things! Oh well ...

If the planets align, I'll be there on Saturday!
Impulseive I'll go with ya!

Thanks,

The press day is tomorrow, May 6th. The ride won't actually open to the public until Saturday. At least that's what I heard earlier today.
I will be there both Friday and Saturday with my wife.

No further explanation needed. I'm hopelessly lost.
I'll be working at the park all weekend. If anyone comes to the park this weekend, I'll be in Midway America at any of the big rides. Stop by and say hi. *** Edited 5/6/2004 1:58:10 AM UTC by SmurfRacer***

Not only is this good news, but it also gives us a heads up that probably most Intamin coasters will still be open.
StormRunner actually ran yesterday (Wednesday) with
passengers for the first time. It is sweeeeeeeet! Fast,
smooth and quiet and the inversions are great! No
complaints about the restraints and it doesn't bash you
around too much.

Ed Rendell, the Governor of PA gets to ride today,
along with some other VIPs, and I believe the press
will be there this evening. It will open to the public
on Saturday.

Happy riding--the time has finally come!

this sucks, as I am not going anywhere this summer other than wild adventures for the FTPLA trip (damned summer school)

And here comes the obligatory question...

I've got no problem on any seat on B&M inverts or Vekoma SLC's, but I can't ride Hershey's CLAW because those OTSRs won't close.

What about the OTSRs on Storm Runner? Roomy, or tight? Would like to hear from any one "in the know".

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
I'm guessing the restraints will be hydrolic like those on all other Intamin coasters, so essentially, as long as you can get the seatbelt buckeled, you can ride. Don't know if that helps or not...

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Well seeing as though Storm Runner has OTSRs it should not be affected by the recent "unpleasantness". Anyway, it'll be a little while before I get up to Hershey (maybe not till July/August), but I wish them all the luck with their new *toy*.

Well, I haven't had a problem with seat belts yet... just those tight OTSRs on CLAW.

Not sure if I will find out on Saturday or not. My wife will be working on Saturday morning, so I plan on being at the park from 10am to around 3pm (need to get back home for dinner with her parents around 5pm). IF Storm Runner is running, not sure if I will brave the lines. Might just concentrate on Wildcat, Lightning Racer, Great Bear and Comet and save Storm Runner for a later, less insane time.

There's the first news report and pics I've seen of Storm Runner's Grand opening...looks great...just can't wait to get some clearer pics. Sounds like the ride is getting rave reviews already, well, at least from the few people they interviewed.
