This was not a accident (something goes wrong with a ride). This was a natural disaster.

Man, did you see all those Sea Gulls at CP?
That's not roughness that intensity

Exactly, Kennywood did not have an accident, it was not caused by ride or operator error, but an act of god. I myself was there and people were jumping over the counter of the potato patch to seek shelter.

Let's just say there is no such thing as a small order of fries at the Patch.

When a storm rips through anywhere where there are lots of people, there is always a chance of people getting hurt or killed. From the looks of things, I guess it could probably have been worse. I don't know why they felt necessary to talk about the Thunderbolt incident in those articles. With a weather event like that, bad things happen in open fields, cities, stadiums, suburbs, farms, etc. It just happened to hit an amusement park this time - that's all.

I wish the best for the family and also wish the best to Kennywood. They're going to have a lot of work getting the park ready to open again. I'm sure they will come back strong though. :)

Hello.

I'm the friend of cernelli's that was headed past KW on Friday. Myself and my friend John were scheduled to play in the Eat N Park Hope Network basketball classic at the Waterfront.

We came on route 51 North, then joined onto 837. We were headed to the Waterfront to register our team and whatnot.

Right at Dravosburg, it started to rain. Light rain at first, then as we got closer to Kennywood, it started getting heavier and heavier. Until at one point right before the Dairy Queen on the left, I had to slam on my brakes to avoid the biggest tree I've ever seen lying on a road. Then, I knew something was up. Then we got to Kennywood...

And it was kind of surreal. Everyone around had a clueless/helpless look on their face. We were redirected up past the McDonalds, and it was at this point i noticed no stoplights were on and McDonald's looked like it was without power.

To make a long story short, I get sidetracked through the streets of West Mifflin, and that was a real eye opener. Trees everywhere. Some so large that it covered the entire width of the road (and then some).

I can't describe how surreal everything was, you could tell that the firemen, police officers, and other rescue/emergency workers were feeling a bit uneasy and worried, since the storm looked like it could break out at any time.

Eventually, we find our way to the Waterfront, which is also without power. It was chaos as cars were driving around aimlessly without stoplights. As we enter Dave And Buster's, they also have no power, and the uneasy tension was so thick you could cut it with a butter knife.

Just a surreal night all around.

Are you Reelin In The Years? Stowin away the time?

Wow, I hate to be rude and everything The Guy, but did you read ANYTHING at all? The whip fell not because of some operator error, or some bad construction, this was an act of mother nature.

You act like how the local news was last night. "There were high winds in excess of 70 mph, but we really wonder how exactly did the Whip come down." Something liken of that was said by Channel 11 news.

Please, please, read the article before you make an assumption on something.

i meant that the death was accidental, not deliberate...some of u people are hypes, don't get all crazy cuz i call something an accident because that's what it was...

It's going to take a while for the park to be cleaned up, and all the rides back up and running. Here are some of the rides that got damaged during the storm, Raging Rapids, Log Jammer, Old Mill, and partrooper. Now the rides that got damaged I don't know how bad the rides are? And one thing for sure I HOPE they can restore the Whip! Because if they can't then it will be a sad that it had to go like this.

:)KENNYWOOD:)

I heard on MSNBC that the actual ride wasn't damaged but just the roof was torn off and flew over the queue. Hopefully, the Whip and all the other rides damged in the storm can be repaired and the park can reopen very soon.

This is so sad.
