Actually, the bottom of the 2nd drop is nowhere NEAR the river. There's what appears to be a pumping station (or something) below the turnaround.

Actually for all those who have been to KW before might relate to this: Over by the Music Express is a sign saying how high SP *really* is. I think it says that even though the lift hill is 160 ft. from where it is, yet its height from sea level [bottom of ravine, I guess] is 240 or 260 not sure. So really like someone said above that if they wanted to compete with CP they would need to be 250+, etc. Well they always have been and with PR it will 10 feet higher

Kennywood doesn't want to build the biggest ride, or the fastest ride, just the BEST ride.

Steel Phantom is 160 feet tall, meaning the first drop is slightly less than that. When it climbs back up the 2nd hill, we all know it's not going to go 160 ft. back up, it's impossible. Therefore, for this conversation's sake, we'll say it goes up 150 ft.
The 2nd drop being 225 ft. down, this means there's 150' above ground level ("ground level" being where the station is), and 75' down in the ravine.
If Kennywood wanted a drop of 300+, they'd *at least* have to make the first drop in the area of 235 ft. above ground. (This is all using the *current* layout of the first 2 drops on SP.) If the first drop was 235 ft., they'd climb a hill of about 225' above ground, then drop down 300ft (225 above ground level, 75 below) for the "giga coaster" status.
Let's think about this for a minute, though. Millennium Force doesn't even have a 300' *and* 200' drop. Other than the first drop, no other drops break the 200' barrier. Just try to imagine the amount of money it would take. Granted, use of terrain saves a lot of money, but still... that would be a pretty penny indeed.
(And on a side note, I looked, but couldn't find the statistics for Steel Dragon 2000. I imagine that the 2nd drop on it is 200+ feet tall.)
I hope you all have followed my logic... I did the best I could.

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
I don't think they are all that close to the river with the steel phantom and i also don't think that the second drop goes upward as high as it could so if the wanted too the could maybe make the hill lift alittle higher make the second drop higher, and make the second drop go lower and the might be able to break the record , someone tell me if there is any thing wrong with this plan.
Also were was this info about a parking lot coaster did he acuatlly say he has one. Also how much land do u think kennywood owns i think alot more than people think. the say they are so crowded i think the are just trying to make use of the land they are using now.
Henninger did say they have plans for a coaster that "goes out over the parking lots". These plans are probably completely useless now, though, I would think. Why? Well, because if those plans were to be a Steel Phantom replacement, and SP isn't leaving, that makes the plans, well, pretty much useless.
Also, in my personal opinion, I think Kennywood has more room to expand than they make us believe.

I wonder what color they are going to paint it.
i personally think the sp sucks, i had a terribly after i rode. im excited that they are building a new coaster!!
Phantoms Revenge Here i COME!!Ö
Im just wondering if the trains are gonna be as cool as the one on Steel Dragon. Haha, that would be an insult to the Phantom's legacy.

Well, I look forward to them redesigning it!!! I just got back from there Monday and like basically all Arrow coasters, it was a little on the rough side (like Drachenfire (BGW), Great American Scream Machine (SFGAd)), just to name a few. I could probably name more, but I just can't remember them all. I heard them say at Kennywood that they will save alot of money reprofiling the ride instead of building a whole new one. And if D.H. Morgan is the one who is in charge of the reprofile, then I think we all are in for a very smooth ride when it opens up next year!!!!!! But hey, that's just my opinion on the matter!!!!
Actually if you read the link from this pittsburgh paper, it tells you that Kennywood always was planning on keeping the first two drops, so no SP fans spoiled Kennywood putting in a recordbreaking coaster. They were happy that the fans responded like they did about loving parts of the Phantom, and it just re-enforced in their own minds that they made the right decision.

What if Kennywood is still building a giga coaster but they don't want to release any stats so another park can't build a giga next year. Why else do you think that they didn't release any stats. Remember they were not going to release any details on the new coaster until Jan so why not just release fake stats. Also when they said they only have the design on a napkin they are they are just lieing because it takes a while to design a coaster.
I don't Think There Ever Were Plans To Build a new coaster, kennywood Probably Just said that to get people into the park to say "goodbye" to the Phantom
