On topic: Steel Venom at Valleyfair is IMHO probably the weakest of the impulses in the midwest. The location of the ride leaves a lot to be desired and it seems like they just put it out in the parking lot (with that being said, most of the park feels like there is no rhyme or reason to placement of things). It's a good ride, don't get me wrong, just not even close to being the best impulse there is. Weird how clones are like that.
I mean as in the ride ops literally pull the gates open and closed by hand...no motors and buttons used in the process. I watched that happen on Double Loop and Serial Thriller on multiple occassions.
I agree the location leaves a lot to be desired, but we all know Cedar Fair parks aren't known for their landscaping (except Camp Snoopy). The location certainly does not make Steel Venom the "weakest impulse."
Note, the word "please" not being used. *** Edited 4/29/2004 6:50:39 PM UTC by Rihard***

SV's launch is stronger than V2's in SFGAm. And Wild Thing is a thrilling ride. Sure it is better with the trims open (which does happen from time to time) but even with them closed, the airtime on the second hill is some of the best around.

I happen to like Steel Venom the most of the impulses I have been on. (which is only 2 ;) Although I've seen four in person)
Anyways, I like how Steel Venom interacts with the midway more than the other ones I have seen. It is lower to the ground and close to the main traffic so every one can see it and see the reactions of the riders as they are launched.
I also echo the comments about it being smoother. I thought it was a lot smoother than V2 and just a better overall ride despite it being shorter. I like looking at the stunned guests as you are in the holding brake. On V2 at SFGAm, you don't get that. You get to look at water.
The last thing I like is the roomy restraints on Steel Venom. I've lost a lot of weight in the off season but last season I was pretty big and was refused about half the time on V2, the year before I was refused on Wicked Twister, and the year before that I couldnt ride Superman: Ultimate Escape at SFWOA. Steel Venom I not only fit in the restraints, but I had extra room. I'm hoping this year to pick up a lot of the impulses because I'm much thinner now :)
EDIT: On and RavenTTD, where is this supposed airtime on Wild Thing? I found no airtime whatsoever on that ride. *** Edited 4/29/2004 7:09:55 PM UTC by Kick The Sky***
Certain victory.
Someone suggested that it isn't necessary to write papers anymore because there are websites for that...I should point out that it IS necessary to write papers, because there are websites for that, too. :)
Actually, Steel Venom IS grounded, but then so are all steel coasters. :) (electrically, at least!)
I have a pet theory that says that in the conversion, "safety" belts will be removed from two rides at Geauga Lake. I guess we will find out in a week or two.
It looks to me like the standard gate configuration at Cedar Point is that the platform gates open automatically when the train stops (as do the lap bars) but are closed manually by the co-dispatch operator.

Why would they remove safety belts?
Ok, it's time for bed NOW....

Mind you, it wasnt like it was had to fill up 10 pages. On the contrary, I could have easily have written 25. Condensing a year's worth of work into *jus* 10 pages was a *****!
On topic, I hope Steel Venom is grounded. Otherwise someone could get a nasty shock
