SRM Camera Question

I'll make sure to get to the park early so I can get a few rides in... or maybe I won't bring the camera. Thanks Paula and company. :) *goes to find a coin to flip.*

Paula just echoed what I think is good advice for anybody planning to shoot on a coaster:

...make sure you've ridden both coasters and truly feel comfortable with that large of a camera on board.

I used to shoot coaster POV with a 10-pound full-size VHS camcorder, which I am very glad I don't have to use anymore. Used it on Screechin' Eagle, Sea Dragon, and Phoenix (not sure if there were others or not; it's been about a decade...). It was back then that I developed the guidelines I still follow when shooting on rides:

1) Ride first. Unexpected surprises while shooting are a Bad Thing™.

2) Obtain permission first. If not permission, make sure it isn't forbidden (remember, permission and lack of prohibition are two different things. Either is OK from the shooter's point of view, but by not giving permission, the park may be protecting itself should something go wrong)

3) Secure your gear.

4) Keep your priorities straight:
a) Don't hurt anybody.
b) Don't get hurt.
c) Don't hurt your gear
d) Get a good shot
...IN THAT ORDER!!!

It's all pretty straightforward, actually, but there are people out there who sometimes need reminders...!
