SRM Camera Question

joe.'s avatar
This basically goes out to Paula, but I figured I would ask here in case other people have similar questions.

Now I know that cameras are allowed on the coasters during ERT, as stated in the flyer. Is there a size limit? The reason I ask is because I'd like to bring my XL1 and use it.

(The dimensions: 8 3/4 in x 8 7/16 in x 16 5/16 in)

What the heck is an XL1? Sounds like a race car...

Oops. It's a digital video camera. It can be found here:

That is one impressive camera. $4200 USD that is like a billion CDN .

I was thinking that it looks like a camera that *just might* be able to capture your soul....unless, of course, you happen to be Don "No Soul" Simmons...;)

Personally, I would never bring an XL1 on a ride unless it was mounted to the train. I've taken more expensive cameras in scary places, but never on a coaster that out of control.

I've had the camera on some pretty rough runs in some POS automobiles, where some people wound up with nosebleeds. It should be all good for SRM, I hope. (First trip to HW.)

XL1's and VX-2000's are nice cameras, but for roller coasters I'll stick with my trusty TRV-8. :)

Three chips are better than one, but one pound is easier to deal with than 6 lbs. on a roller coaster.

On a related note...Is there any cameras-permitted ERT this year *before the sun goes down*? I'd like to get *visible* POV of Legend some time... :)

Mike Graham, when he was with CCI, put a bolt on the end of a small PVC pipe for a sort of makeshift monopod he braced on the floor to shoot video. Got pretty good results, too.

Agreed... my POV is all junk because it's too dark!

I may take a snapshot or two...but mostly I'll just be enjoying rides on Raven and Legend. And I'll download all of your onride videos when you upload them for all of us. That will certainly save me some trouble. ;)

Thats Huge!.....would you really want to take that on a coaster?...just go to cvs and get a disposable one.....i doubt this is helping
Jeff- I amagine if you go right to Legend and Raven right when the ERT starts you will probably get some acceptable footage. I've never been there so I wouldn't know though...

ryan C, it isn't a photo camera. its a video camera that is digital. It's really not all that big.

From the event flyer

Camera Policy:

Cameras are permitted during ERT ONLY!

Now a big bulky thing? I'd think twice, At least sit in the backseat :)

It's official Lesourdsville Lake is closed for 2003

Holiday World is at the far Eastern edge of the Central time zone, so it tends to get dark early. I'm planning to get there unusually early (for me) this season in hopes of getting that elusive Legend POV, but the front seat queue is always so long......

I checked with Will Koch about this...he wants to make sure you've ridden both coasters and truly feel comfortable with that large of a camera on board.

It would probably be best to sit in the back of the train--so there's no one behind you. Please don't take any risks...it's just not worth it!

Thanks for asking, Paula

Your best bet is on Friday...as ERT starts at just past 6:30 pm CT. Should have an hour or so of sunlight left.

See you soon! Paula

Would it be OK if I didn't bring a camera?, and just concentrated on having fun at Stark Raven Mad this year

Anyways, enough joking around. I think it'd be great to see a Point Of View of Legend when it's ALMOST dark.

Coaster Clown - Raven and Legend POV already exists. Robb Alvey has awesome POV of both rides on his tapes, but to be honest I'm not sure which ones. Check his website, you might be able to buy them.

mOOSH - starred in the Raven segment w/ Sarah Alvey ;)
