Son of Beast Roughness

^^^Its much much worse than wikipedia. At least on wikipedia you have a system for revisions, and contribution from a community that actually cares about the content (more or less.)

While I would never use wikipedia as a source, or something like that, its still pretty interesting as an expirement, at the very least.

ASO is just weird and gross and scary and laughable and kinda sad, really.

But anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. *** Edited 5/9/2006 1:39:22 AM UTC by matt.***

I really think it has to do with the weather and moisture in the air
Its a awesome ride so it sucks that is has to be pretty rough sometimes. Just like the Beast
Am I the only one that loves the roughness? I like gettting my ass kicked by it, makes me feel like i've been beat up at 80Mph.

Yes you are.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

^^ You won't like that type of roughness when you are a little older.
SOB...My favorite wood ride of all time. Yea I usually get the pimp "beat down" when I chose not to sit in the second row of the first car, the best seat IMHO.

Anyway, I am 35 and I can tell everyone that as you get older you will begin to stay away from rides that put the smackdown on you...um, Iron Wolf anyone? The roughest ride for me is still The Boss, those damn G-trains!

^ Oh gosh, SoB is MUCH worse than Iron Wolf. I rode IW for the first time a couple weeks ago, in the back car, and it was definitely not as bad as SoB--not even really close.

There's a difference between having your head smacked into the OSTRs some versus being pinned into a not-so-soft-padded seat by a lap bar, and then shaken violently, repeatedly. I'll take the former over the latter.

Mind you, IW isn't a great ride, but I didn't even find it quite as bad overall as Chang, which I had ridden 2 days before IW (though I think IW had more headbanging, it wasn't as intense--not that I don't like intense B&Ms, but I don't like stand-ups much).

Here is a poll that has SoB at an average of #148 ranked wooden coaster over the past 6 years. http://www.ushsho.com/woodpoll12yeartable2005.htm

Some may want to dispute this poll, but for a coaster that had a original price tag of around $18 million, plus all of the costs for the modifications over the past six years- you would think that it would be rated higher.

Plus, if it was such a great coaster and most people liked it- why bother doing any type of modifications?

^ Keep in mind, though, that is an enthusiast poll and I don't think it really reflects what the GP thinks about SOB.

In any case...YES Chang is worse than IW. I forgot how much I felt like heaving after that ride. IW was great when it was new but I was also alot younger, he he he. *** Edited 5/20/2006 11:48:48 PM UTC by Marky Mark***

Kind of funny this thread comes back the day that SOB reopens, yet today's poster said nothing about that fact.

Word is SOB is running much better now with it's 5 car trains and extensive track work. I've heard it's much smoother as well.

I guess we'll see how long that lasts though. Hopefully it will stay like this throughout the season so that they can do maintainance over the off-season and keep it in good shape. But if it does revert back to it's old self, I'm thinking I'll at least get one ride on it before then.

^ Sorry but living in Chicago...I wouldn't have known when it reopened, hell, I didn't even know it wasn't running.

I just got back from a day at PKI, and while SoB might be a tad bit smoother, it's still an unrideable mess, in my opinion. The "jackhammer effect" is still present, and the train still looked like it was doing the wave through every turn.

Everyone should take a spin on the "new & improved" SoB, and form their own opinion. However, I've probably had my last ride on it for a long time.

I'm glad Jeff's never seen fit to add SoB to the ERT list at BeastBuzz. :)

Jerry

I have only ridden SoB twice, and both times it was torture. I felt like my brain was scrambled after riding that!

I have to admit though, the point just before you go through the loop, I thought we were not going to make the loop! That little dip you go through just doesn't seem like enough. Only that part was pretty cool.

Other than that...I don't really care for the ride.

Holiday World has the best wooden coaster I have ever been on! :)

I'd rather be riding Roller Coasters....or baking.

Just curious, does anyone know exactly what was done to improve it (I hear about less cars per train, track re-work....)

That's okay, I just thought it was interesting that when the topic came back it had nothing to do with the ride reopening.

I wonder how cedar fair is going to treat this mess of a coaster now that it is there problem?

^ I guess I better go and ride the heck out of it this year before they decide to tinker with it or God forbid taer it down!
