Son Of Beast

anyone ever gotten on Son Of Beast? i am going to paramount kings island this weekend about a12 hour drive from here. Is it worth the trip up there? and how awesome is it?

well i live in nc i think the costers at carowinds are babyish i dont get much of a rush from them. i hear son of beast doesnt have nothing but a lap bar is that correct?

If you're driving from NC, why not just go to Cedar Point? 0-120mph is not babyish....the single greatest ride ever built....

because i dont really have thr money to go there used all my money to get gold season pass to paramount parks. so does son of beast have only a lap bar? and what kind of air time am i looking at ? it looks awesome

Its definately not the highlight of the park. That ride gave me an aneurysm, it shakes you around really good. Its just like any other woody though, thats the thing that amazes me.....most wooden coasters are crazy and shaky as hell 100ft above the ground. So just multiply that by two and you have Son of Beast.

Dont get me wrong though, Ive been just saying how bad it is, but its definately really thrilling and worth riding. The loop is worth it alone, probably the best loop on any coaster that Ive ever been on.

So I guess in the end you could say it evens out to be a decent ride. It has its ups and downs.

A 12 hour drive though? I dont really think its worth it for that long of a drive but thats just me. If youre in Ohio you might as well hit Sfwoa & Cp. Or if you are from the southern states it might be a nice trip to hit Holiday World and maybe Sfkk or something. I wouldnt drive all that way just for Pki. Just me though.

Yes, they arent typical lap bars but they are technically lap bars. They about 2-3 times the size of a normal lap bar and they click down onto your waist/stomach....they arent the most comfortable of lap bars but the loop is worth it.

well i will just be in the car on the way up there i will not be driveing but still. yeah wooden coasters do beat you up a little but still there is nothing like a wooden coaster. the wooden coasters at carowinds will beat the #%^^ out of you and really bad at the back of the train

If you want a smooth ride on Son of Beast, make sure that you do NOT ride over the wheels assemblies. I repeat, for a smoother ride, do NOT ride over the wheel assemblies.

Simply put Son Of Beast IS NOT an airtime machine....at all. I dont recall ANY airtime on it. Not that it is a bad ride because in my opinion it is a good ride. Maybe I am just a freak.

Not a lot of airtime that I recall, but lots of laterals. Yes, it shakes you up, but if you like rattling woodies and know how to ride them (do NOT lean back in your seat), you'll enjoy SOB.

Personally, I thought The Beast was a much better coaster.

As far as I'm concerned PKI is one of the few coaster Meca's which you are "bound by sacred law" to visit at least once in your lifetime. :)

It took us 24 hours to drive there from western South Dakota. Not only were our expectations met but they were exceeded by leaps and bounds. Beast and SOB would have been worth the trip alone. Surprises like Vortex, recaR and FoF put PKI at the top of my list.

I'm an airtime junkie and even though there is no airtime on SOB I still emensely enjoyed the ride. The loop doesn't plaster you to your seat.. it almost feels like 1 G all the way around. It's a great sensation.

But there's some good airtime to be had on Vortex if you ride in the front or back car. Also Recar in the afternoon after it's all nice and warmed up provides a great ride.

The Beast indeed puts SoB to shame. Somehow I managed to enjoy SoB a little, despite the brain damage I received. Worst pain I've ever been dealt by a coaster.

If you're looking for a woodie with airtime why not drive 14 hours and go to Holiday World? You got 2 excellent woodies to choose from and each has more airtime than SOB and Beast combined. Plus free parking, free soft drinks, free waterpark, free sunscreen, cheap admission prices, and a clean and friendly atmostphere.

mOOSH - would still pick HW even if he lived next door to King's Island.

Sob does have some air. The loop alone is great. That 1st drop is not bad either. Racer has some decent air if you hit it right.

Agreed.....Airtime is something that PKI is lacking (and non-existant in Beast and Son of beast). Even CP has more!

Give me HW over PKI any day.....

Holy crapola! Sony might be the ultimate destination!

Racer has some good airtime, and the first drop on Vortex does too. Nothing killer, but enough for a junkie to get a fix.

I don't think SOB is great by any means, but I do enjoy it well enough.
