Something wrong with Villain?

Today I rode the wonderful Villain. To sum it all up, it looks like the Dinn in Denise has come out. This ride shuffled and squeaked like mad and took the turns more rough than ever. What happened? It is much worse than ever, and for the first time ever, one ride was enough. Think a faster Wolf Bobs (think Mean Streak) Will it feel the fate of the Twisted Sisters?

Sounds like the G trains are doing their thing. Don't blame Denise. One ride on the (MUCH older) Raven will show you that if you take care of one of her rides it will ride as good as new.

I'm not sure the G-trains are to blame either - I think it's more like neglect on SFWoA's side of things. I was at the park once in June and July, and both times Villain was rougher than I remember it being the past 2 years, although I didn't think it was too rough to be enjoyable. In particular, the train makes a very unhealthy-sounding noise on the twisting drop off the first turnaround (accompanied by a pretty forceful jolt) and just bangs all around the final turnaround like a pinball. I remember that part being smooth as glass in 2000, which is really sad, because Villain is one of my sentimental favorites, and I hate to see it neglected. I only wonder how it's going to run next year...

I thought Villain was a great ride when we were there, and an out-n-back is just too easy to maintain...now RWB I can understand, and the park did a good job with Big Dipper...can't figure why they can't maintain Villain....(unless those guys from SFGAdv "help" with Villain......

SF has gotten SO carried away with new rides, I think a lot of the more recent installations have been a bit...neglected....without "routine maintenance", woodies don't last long.....then lines drop off, as even the GP really CAN tell the difference....

edit: Villain is the one ride where the G-trains really didn't bother me at all...not bad on Cheetah, either....

Villain's problems have absolutely nothing to do with its design, CCI, Dinn or any other external factors. Its failure to perform rests squarely on the people who own it and don't maintain it.

Villain should be a top-10 ride. I was completely blown away with it the year it opened. Sadly, it hasn't been kept up.

Ghostrider and Villain have very similar designs. Lack of Maintanance is what deteriorated Villain. Meanwhile, Ghostrider, which is sometimes Intamin woodie smooth, is that way because it gets 2 rehabs a year and nightly maintance. They also have 3 trains and give each 6 months of constant rest each 1 1/2 years.
But Villain has 3 trains and 2 of them get constant rest 24/7/365 ;).
funny, Joe E :-D yeah, Villian was my #100, and i was dissapointed to say the least. i hear all you guys say it ran so well opening year....i really hope it can return to that luster. i mean, it didnt suck, but it certainly didnt have what it looks like it has....anyway.....heres hopin it will get some nice rehab this winter.

hey...thats my story..and im stickin by it!!! :)
PKD 2003...drop rides will never be the same...Intamin rocks!! :)

I can sum up the problem: Not enough TLC was given to it! It was great the first year it opened (top 5 woodie), but the following year I noticed a decline in its smoothness and over all ride. I can only imagine it has only gotten worse.

I didn't get to ride Villian until the 2001 season, then a few more times again this year. I never saw what everyone raved about. If it is as simple as upkeep then that just sucks, because I've never gotten a good Villian ride. :(

I'd have to say I've been in denial about the decline in the ride quality. While I still think it is the best ride in the park and one of my all time favorite woodies, there is no doubt the ride is suffering from increasing roughness. However the only part that has gotten reallly rough would be the trick track area, it takes that at full speed and you can definetly tell there is a problem.

Andrew, who has to wonder what is going on with Villain maintenance, when they have so well kept up Big Dipper.

I went to SFWOA this season and well Villain has an amazing first drop the rest of the ride was terribly rough. In our on ride photo everyone is in pain I even saw a girl crying getting off.

CCI put an incredible layout, ridiculous pacing, and great visulas into this ride.

Then you get: G-trains +Six Flags =evil.

Unfortunatel the evil outweighs the good in this ride. I can honestly say that this ride would rank #2 or possible beat Shivering Timbers if it wasn't a punch you in the face woodie.

I think the G- trains are what destroyed my Villain experience.... No leg room= no airtime. But I saw every person on that ride have a good time, and it was definitely one of the cooler woodies I've been on.

Villain was my # 1 woodie and # 1 at WoA in 2000 and early 2001.

Then, it died.

Now it doesn't even rank on my favorites at WoA, and I would rather just go home without riding Villain now.

I got alot of airtime on it but my legs wore sore after all of the turns. it was fairly rough when I rode it mid august but not as rough as a couple of other times this summer. Maybe the key is ride it after it rains. It made alot of difference on my ride.

What the hell is wrong with SFWOA. They have a top 5 quality woodie but they are letting it rot away.

Hey just ride Serial Thriller and Raging Wolf Bobs first, then run to Villain and it will seem smooth as glass ;)

Villian does shuffle a bit but its not that bad. It still has more air then you could shake a stick at. Some more maintainance and PTC's would help it immensly. But it is still a good ride. It's better then the pile of would on the end of a pennisula an hour to the west.

Out of woodies in Ohio I would say Villian ranks Below the Beast, Blue Streak, Recar, and Screechin Eagle and above Big Dipper, Mean Streak, Racer, Sonny, and RWB.

-----------------
All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

I love that pile of wood an hour west on the penninsula. I sat in the back this year and it was a very good ride that was about as rough as Blue Streak. Everyone that was getting off was happy and not complaining like on Villain.

By the way I really think its CCI and not SF because Great White at Moreys Pier is a VERY rough ride and that has PTC trains.
