Some theme park fans dislike Tron ads on Walt Disney World monorail train

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

One of Walt Disney World's monorail trains single-striped paint job has been replaced by the image of a motorcycle set against a blue background on the front cab -- with a shimmering, yellow trail of light that extends the length of the train. The ad display is part of the Walt Disney Co.'s early marketing campaign for Tron: Legacy, the big-budget sequel to the 1982 cult classic that will serve as the company's winter-holiday movie release this year. The ad has split hardcore fans.

it's not Tron unless Bruce Boxleitner is in it.

Bruce Boxleitner is in it.

I prefer the monorail with no ads but I don't think the Tron ads are that bad. I hated the Stitch design on the monorails even more (though not as much as I hate Stitch's Great Escape).

I love the look of the 'wrapped' monorail but I can honestly say I've never heard of Tron before- until now, so I guess they have done their job :)

I'm sheriff of this here rollercoaster.

I think I like it better than the plain vanilla version.

What a non-issue IMO!
I vividly remember seeing TRON at the theater when I was 13.
The film broke twice during the first 10 minutes of the movie, which I never experienced before or since.
For such a technologically advanced style of filming, it was just awkward sitting with everyone else in a silenced theater twice in a matter of 10 minutes.

DejaVuNitro, surely you've seen a Tron vintage arcade game. There are two different arcade boxes, the original, with four different "mini-games", and the disc tossing game, which was one of the first, if not the very first, arcade game that one sits inside of. Both of those games were very different from other arcade games, which made them extremely popular.

I wasn't lucky enough to see Tron in theaters, but I owned it on VHS. It's cheesy at times, but still a great flick.

Tron was the first film to use computer animation, if I recall correctly. That, combined with other special effects, really gave Tron a unique look. From the looks of the preview, the new Tron movie looks even better.

Because our technology has changed, the Tron story is very outdated. I always wanted to see a Tron story taking place in modern times. I'm pretty excited for the new movie.

And if Disney wants to advertise the new movie with a moving billboard that travels around half of Disney, good for them. They want this franchise to take off, and this is a good way to make people think about Tron.

Also Disney made the decision to only have the Tronorail on the Epcot loop, if they put it on the main MK loop I might be mildly irked about it. On the Epcot loop though, it fits the theme and looks cool.

I thought the original movie was pretty weak, and I saw it in the theater when I was 9. I haven't seen the movie since then (just bits and pieces on TV), so I don't remember much about it, except the cycle scene, which was the best part of the movie.

The monorails look cool though.

Big deal what's on the outside. Just don't have two of them heading toward each other on the same track, K?

The previews look pretty cool. I will have to dig out a copy of the original and watch it again.

Before you can be older and wiser you first have to be young and stupid.

Just saw the Tronorail for the first time yesterday on my way home from work, and have to admit that it looks pretty cool. I was extremely skeptical when I first heard about it, but I really like how it looks.

What they should do is hang some "bits" inside the TRONorail. Now that would be awesome....

...but then again, I love TRON.

Why wouldnt a person get Bit Dave?!? If they watched the movie, it should be fully understandable? Yes = 1 or no = 0 :)

Just so long as they don't try to sneak a Lilo or Stitch in there, I'm okay with it.

Ugh.. Like how they shoe horned them into the actual monorail speech for a while?

Confession: we liked the Stitch bits of the monorail spiel.

When will we GET there?

Exactly.
