It cant be, since back in the 1600's they had them with loops, and they were made out of wood
Well the is the coaster still standing, no!

It is the first coaster with a "successful" loop(in theory......SoB isn't a HUGE success, but it is stil running without killing anybody).

It was the first modern wooden roller coaster with a loop.
They didn't have coasters back in the 1600's! Did they?

Did any of the early loopers actually kill anybody? From what I've read, the early loops were a perfect circle that put a lot of strain on the riders neck and back. That problem was largely solved when they switched to an elliptical loop.
The contraption failed because it wasn't able to attract enough riders to make it economically successful. People were more interested in watching then riding. In fact, I believe that one such ride even charged a fee for spectators.

I don't think PKI ever promoted the SOB as being the 1st wooden looper. Just as being the only one in the world (meaning at this time).
I don't recall them ever claiming that it was the "first" one, just that it is the "only" one - meaning the only one currently in operation.
yes the early wooden loopers DID kill a few people because of the G's (there where like 10!) on the loop. The probably would've lived if the trains had headrests.

I bet you didn't know the coaster originated in Russia, they pretty much used ice and scuplted it and it' liken a modern day bobsled coaster

Speaking of circular loops.. isn't there a coaster at Six Flags AstroWorld that still boasts 4 circular loops?
Seems like I read that they pull like 4.5 G's.
Neat, but doesn't sound all that comfortable.
Id still like to se a full wooden loop, not the steel looking one SoB has. WHo cares bout structural integrity?

the part about SoB being a success is pretty debatable.

There were successful Loop The Loop coasters in the past as well. Heck, there was one at Olentangy Park in Columbus, OH! But those proved to be low-capacity novelties and none lasted for very long.
Hmmm...I wonder if history will repeat itself in the next hundred years.

actually SOB is a big success. if you think, 2 years later they have 40million to spend on a new ride. so yes it was.
it looks cool I really want to ride it. when I was there last year the line was like 4 hrz
