Six Flags plans to build new park

Dubai is one of the emirates that make up the UAE. It used to be a powerhouse in oil production, but the numbers have dropped in recent years as its fields are slowly tapping out. It has established itself as a financial hub, and in an effort to diversify its economy further has turned to tourism as a central focus of its planning.

So, yes, they're counting on a big jump in tourism. The SF deal is a clear example of their thinking.

I can't believe in 2008 that I read "they can build Shock and Wave!"

How long before we have both Super and Man coaster next to Shock and Wave?

Why would we have Super and Man? That makes no sense.
When they rip Superman from SFGAm's parking lot for the next inovation in coasters.

I don't know about you guys, but I hope they just put in Wave. IMO, I think Shock just isn't a very good coaster. ;)

Also now Six Flags gets to finally do what they want and create a park from the ground up meaning they aren't spending all this time and money trying to get a broken down old dirty park in order. They will really get to show off areas of creativity and themeing design we haven't seen before. This will help contribute to strengthening the Six Flags Brand globally.

You certainly expect a lot from SF, Inc. Looking at their recent history, creativity and theming certainly do not appear to be their strong points. Does anyone who travels to Dubai know who Tony Hawk is?

Let's not forget this won't be the first time they've tried going global.

There has recently been an email going around my office about how Dubai has exploded in growth within the last 18 years. It is amazing to see the before and after pics.

Things of mention are the man made islands shaped like palm trees, and ones to make the image of the globe. The only 7 star hotel in the world. The proposed only underwater hotel in the world. The Burj Duabai building to be finished this year at a stagering 800 meters (2,625 ft.) which will be the tallest building in the world at 40% higher than Taipei 101.

Dubai is also expected to have the largest waterfront development in the world also.

Oh...and a Trump hotel.

It just makes sense to get in there and make a claim before it's too late. I'm sure in time there will be a shake out of which parks are successfull and the others will move out.

Thanks for another great season, VF!

Well that's it! I'm moving to Dubai.. so GoodBye

No I don't have a kid, but I still want to ride!

Based on the X2 upgrade at SFMM (including the Rockin' Scream test they're doing in anticipation), the conversion of SFMW to SFDK, Shapiro's recent murmurings about story-based attractions, and the Dark Knight coasters if everything in the renderings come to fruition, I'd take the exact opposite stance.

Their approach to theming is hit or miss. They may have a hit on their hands with X2 and I did like SFDK. But dropping a Tony Hawk into the Boomtown section of SFOT, and a Goliath into the Los Festivals section of SFFT were certainly misses. So too was dropping a Dark Knight coaster into a park that already had a coaster named Dark Knight. I can't even begin to explain Evel Knievel at SFSTL. I do hope these Mack-In-The-Box coasters work out, but I don't think a low-capacity mouse was a good choice for two of their most highly attended seasonal parks.
or splendid china!
