oof - my troll detector just went off
Someone help me with the stand-up drop tower. I have no idea how this would work. Wouldn't your legs (or more tender parts) buckle as you came to a stop at the bottom?
Mamoosh, The stand-up giant drop is at Drayton Manor. And to everyone, when you reach about 3/4 of the way up the tower, your ar tilts formard fifteen degrees so you are basically staring at the ground rushing up at you as they fall. The whole concept of a stand-up gyro-drop is still incredibly kewl.

Vertical Velocity and Déjà Vù coming to SFGAm in 2001!
Ok, its getting a big boomerang like SFMM and SFGA.. and now its getting a drop? why a drop? those are soo old,, I cant stand waiting in line for the Giant Drop, its not that fun, maybe when the lines short.. and hows the Viper out there? I was too young to ride it when it was at Great America, and the Z-Force, oh, but Magic Mountain has that one now, and they act like its soo cool, when It was at my park in the 80's.. I dunno, its funny.
Hey Folks:
Is this forum for fans or snobs?
I'm in Portland, Or and would be grateful to be near any park that has multiple grown-up coasters, or even gets an occasional "new" thrill ride.
Good reality check, Bob, thank you!

People! Let's remember this the south and unless you go to florida then you're not going to find a better park as far as coasters go then SFOG. There are some great parks around here but they are not thriller destinations. SFOG adding these two rides just puts themselves even more on the map as being the thrillride destination for the south. There is really only two other serious thrillride parks in the south and they are IOA and BGT. So the upper south is left in the cold without SFOG. I say way to go SF!

Flying over metal is a beautiful thing!
Outside of Hawaii and Alaska, Oregon is about as far from a multiple coaster park as you can get in the US.
Do any of you locals know if they are keeping the Viper? I "heard" they may be getting rid of it soon.
The amazingly painful Ninja is staying

Coasterbob and coasterTal hit it right on the head. Just because it doesn't say Cedar Point or SFMM on the entrance sign doesn't mean that your park is 'mediocre.' Why is it that the Point and MM are the way they are? Competition. The Point has to compete with SFWoA, PKI, and other numerous parks in that part of the country. SFMM has to compete with the mouse, which anyone should know entails a lot of investment. Who does SFoG have to compete with? Visionland? Wild Adventures? If that's all they have to compete with then what they're doing is definantly enough to attract Mr. and Mrs. Average American. Especially since 9 out of 10 people aren't going to drive 10+ hrs. to go to a park that has 4 more coasters.
I'll shut up before Jeff tells me to take a chill pill ;). I just want people to realize that there are some parts of the country where we don't have the luxury of having to decide which multi-coaster park to take a day trip to. I'm sure everyone in this area is thrilled with Deja Vu and Acrophobia, so please don't rain on our parade.

Coming to SFoG in 2001! Deja Vu, Acrophobia, and Deja Vu
The Atlanta Journal Constitution says "the rides...are expected to open for the park's summer season, which begins around Memorial Day..."
Don't expect to ride either before then but the AJC has been wrong before. Suprising since work is coming along nicely on Deja Vu, some of which can be seen from I-20 which runs alongside the park.
Anyone out there miss spring Friday nights at SFOG?
Clarification:
Will Deja Vu be pulled or launched out of the station? I've read on different accounts that it will do both. Which is it?
I am in the same situation as CoasterBob,I also live in Portland,OR and would love to hear that Oaks Park or Thrillville is getting a new coaster.I have e-mailed Oaks Park suggesting they get a SBNO or endangered coaster, how ever they would have sure that this would financially viable to do.As it is now, there are only two woodies that I know of within a days drive of Portland. One is the Coaster at Western Washington Fairgrounds,it only operates three weeks a year when the fair is open, the other is the endangered Carl Phare designed Coaster at the PNE in Vancouver,BC.
Hey folks!
Though I would consider myself a medium thrillseeker, I have to agree with the boys from Portland. Growing up in Milwaukee, WI, we were only an hour from Great America in Illinois, and while, at least in the Mariott years, they didn't add something new every year, we were just happy to go. Right now, it's definitely a thrill-seeker's market, wouldn't you say?
As for Acrophobia, I think it will be an excellent addition to SFOG, as will be Deja Vu. Hey, I visited there in 1997, the year they had JUST added Batman The Ride, and was pretty impressed with the scant collection they had. I think Six Flags Over Georgia is so cool because of the excellent theming, landscaping, and retheming of some older rides, such as Mindbender, and Viper (formerly SFGAM's Tidal Wave). The only ride I would get rid of there is Ninja : The Head Banger of Roller Coasters.
As for your feet dangling, I do think that is garbage - it will be a standup, but not with nothing below your feet. Of course, if you put the seat up too high, you can dangle all you want.
Go Six Flags!
sean:
I've read that Deja Vu will be blasted and then somewhere else it said that it would be pulled out of the station.
My guess is that it will be pulled up, can you imagine the backwards blast to get that train up 177 feet? I'm certain that it can be done but my guess is that it will be pulled up the first lift.
sean:
I stand corrected. I just received my season pass renewal request from SFOG moments ago and the Deja Vu announcement has the subheading "Fast Forward, Blast Backward"
I guessing there will be a serious jolt backwards to get the Deja Vu party started.
Sean,
Yes, indeed i do miss the Friday night's at SFoG. My school choir is going there, and when we went two years ago, we had friday night all to ourselves, no lines for anything, and then we go there this year, and they say they can't pay their utility bill to keep the park open on friday night. I think that is BS. Well, anyways, i am way happy about the new additions to the park. :)

You will be STANDING for more at Six Flags over Georgia.
A belated thanks to Coasterfiend for correcting me on where the first Stand-Up Free Fall.
I think this is great for SFOG. Deja-Vu and Acrophobia is what SFOG needed.
Sounds awesome! I hope we get a copy of Acrophobia here at SFMW. Rogier de Groot, the great thing about living in America is that if you hate certain rides, no one will force you to ride them. Besides, it keeps the lines shorter for the rest of us!
