Read the press release on Internet Wire.

That's exactly why the bought it to make ONE big park thats what the announcment was about making one big park how can half of it being draining the park its not the same park anymore SWO its SFWoA(formerly SFO) and it had its best year according to them and this just makes them alot bigger. I see this park making a run at park with most coaster's they have the space and parking now.

Do you think they'll accept my voucher for season pass when it says Six Flags Ohio?
The Channel 3 Cleveland news said SFWoA is looking to replace Shamu now!

"...because no one but the locals could pronounce Geauga correctly."

...Which didn't matter because, enthusiasts aside, 99% of the people visiting were local anyway.

Jeremy: I think you're over-estimating the importance of the name Six Flags. Three years ago, people in the Cleveland area had no idea what Six Flags really was, outside of "some park in Georgia." Certainly my only pre-enthusiast contact with it was passing through Georgia from Florida, and we were most unimpressed (circa 1990).

I beg to differ about the traffic issue being an "isolated" incident. One lane going west on 43 is the work of Satan himself. I experienced it first-hand in June when my company held a management summit at the resort hotel down the street. Five days of that trip made Cleveland rush hour feel like driving across Montana.

Overall, I would tend to agree that staffing is where it's at. If they can pair that with significantly improved guest service, they'll make a killing. If not, well, west I shall go.

Go Shamrocks!

Last year Six Flags Ohio had a little store with Geauga Lake merchandise really cheap, maybe we can get that again this year with Six Flags Ohio merchandise. Does anyone know if they are planning an auction of the signs and stuff or are they just changing them or something?

Honestly, I have no idea how far the Six Flags name reaches. But the management at PKS seems to believe that the Six Flags name can do more for its parks than any other more individualistic name. There may be some truth to that as people around here (DC) only refer to SFA as six flags. They also just call the Jersey park 'the six flags in jersey'. Of course, no one in Chicago calls SFGAm anything other that 'Great America'. I dont know, but I think PKS is counting on the term 'Six Flags' being a household name.
I think one of the biggest issues here is "multi-day". With "3" parks, its becoming more obvious that PKS is looking to be a vacation destination. Problem - no place to stay. Sure, when I'm up in the area, I camp at the state park 15 miles north of SFO (or SFWOA or WHATEVER). I'm in the minority. The first thing that PKS should do is more accomodations - before marketing this park as an entire complex that takes 3 days to experience.

"This only means all the SFO shirts, hats, ect. will soon be on Ebay!"

I'm keeping my stuff. I figure it will become a pretty interesting collector's item. I mean, how many times has a park gone by a name for one year only? I don't think it'll be worth a lot, but it's a conversation piece at least.

I love Ohio! You know SFWOA is not gonna keep the marineland strictly rideless. In a few years coasters will be surrounding the whole lake. I wonder what the deal with parking will be. I doubt that there would be more than 1 gate since its one park. I hope they just use the former sea world side. If i remember it is huge and has great landscaping. They could do a lot more than the little sign on the sfo side. This is very doubtfull this year but eventually i hope they stick with just the sea world lot. Could you imagine if they used the current six flags ohio lot as land for more coasters and rides ect. in upcoming years. You may be looking at the future coaster capital of the world--they already 10 w/ x-flight this year. I'm 16 and seriously don't ever want to leave Ohio as long as 6 flags is growing, and with the new land and possible (please) future parking lot space they'll have a lot of room. Oh by the way living 15 minutes away i really never cared for sea world--it was overpriced, repetitive and not worth it many people i know feel the same.

Summer (and coaster season) could not come any quicker--Don't believe Ohio is King? Just wait!!
I don't care how much they improve their staff, it is a serious force now and CP can't continue to say that they are not worried, but hey I still plan on speding my time west of Cleveland.

Anyone want to bet how long it will take CF:LP to combine Soak City and Cedar Point together?

Also will this be the LAST name we see fly over that SF property near Cleveland?

I don't want to call it SFWOA, because who knows if the name has changed again already. :) LOL!

Cedar Point will NEVER combine admissions. Not going to happen. The situation is totally different. Soak City is ruled by resort guests, and spends time at a reasonable capacity most of its season. To include that in admission would mean throwing away millions in revenue. SFO does not have thousands of people staying on property looking for additional things to do.

PKS is doing alot better than alot of internet company stocks;). I could definately see them building a larger hotel(s) in the not to distant future.

Peace, Love, and Rollercoasters.........we need more of all three.
DO NOT under estimate Cedar Point. They have employee housing for nearly 3000 employees. They operate without any debt. They have the largest hotel in Ohio. Actually, they have about 2000 rooms in thier inventory on property. And, they chose to expand their campground. Now, do you now realize they were ready for a challenge.

They contain a very powerful infrasturcture: People. The have great full time staff, and they have about the best trained seasonal staff. They have enough off season work for some associates who do not return to school, and they can house them all winter. They recruit at all major schools within 200 miles, and in Europe.

Six Flags has a ways to go to even try to compete at that level.
But honesty, I wish the best. Where would Aurora and Solon be without that park now?
Wow, this is getting confusing. They should change the name yearly just to throw everyone off:) I agree that the name change may have not been the right decision so soon. *** This post was edited by Intamin Fan on 2/2/2001. ***

Now that they have such a powerful arsenal of attractions in ONE park, it will be even better once they add 3 or 12 more reasonably priced hotels to bring people farther out and keep them here a couple of days longer!

I also hope they do a good job of in-park transportation for older guests.
