Six Flags Ohio announces X-Flight

Six Flags Ohio will announce the construction of X-Flight, a Vekoma Flying Dutchman model roller coaster, this afternoon in a press conference. The ride will be 115 feet tall and have 3,340 feet of track.

I think SFO would compete more with Cedar Point than PKI (I know all three compete) but SFO is a lot closer to CP! PKI will probably come up with some new ride(roller coaster) for 2002 when SFO adds "family oriented" attractions like PKI is adding in 2001[based on rumors] PKI, if rumors of them adding a kids inverted coaster are true, then it will be the fourth coaster built in as many years(two are kids coasters)at PKI. Anyone have any information on what PKI is doing next year or in `02?
in response of Coasterdude27:

if you have aol click on personal finance and then click in the little box where you can type in a symbol. The symbol is PKS. If you dont have aol then whatever internet server you have you should go to anywhere that you can type in a stock symbol. Then where you can type in the symbol type in PKS.
From the video I saw, X-Flight performs a double roll like Vekoma's SLC, instead of a double corkscrew, , but then again, the colors on the video showed X-flight having bright blue supports, so who knows!

I agree with Jeff. New coasters can't pay off if people have a snowball's chance in hell to get in the park.

I think that the X-Flyer is a great addition and all, and I'm as excited as anyone, but really, there are some huge problems that the park should at least try to control before the big opening date.

I think that it's gonna look a lot like Stealth, despite the extra inversion, and that is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, you have it different from any existing coaster, but on the other, it is still only 115 feet tall, and I would just be so thrilled if we could push that to around 150. Just thinking about looking down from the lift hill scares the bejezus outta me.
About that name, remember way back when, when Millennium Force was announced, many people disliked the name. Give it time and the name will grow on you. Like some people have said, at least it's not Superman, Batman, etc.
Yeah the coaster might have three trains , but will it be like the other coasters and only run two causing long waites at every ride. This is going to be a mess. This thing is going to be broken down all the time I saw it way to much last summer. With this technology I dont know they need help.
Trust me with the way that six flags runs the park they might have a slight increase in attendence , but they arent going to touch CP.
Maybe they'll have a slight increase in employees, too.

I'm sure doing this job will be a hard task (checking everyone's harnesses, etc.) and maybe they aren't ready for 3 trains? I would prefer a 3 train operation, but, considering what they did last year with BKF, I'd say it's mainly going to be a 2 train operation. After all, they still have the whole other park to maintain!

Chris
john peck, are you forgetting again that the Big Dipper is not Six Flags' only Coaster Classic? I mean, what about the Sea Dragon?

Besides, a new control system wouldn't jeopardize the Big Dipper's classic status, but extending the seat backs last year might have.

If Six Flags could just give us one more great rollercoaster, then Six Flags Ohio will have its very own Fearsome Five collection. Perhaps a ride similar to S:ROS/Goliath, Joker's Jinx or another wooden coaster could really set Six Flags Ohio on the road to amusement park success!

The Villain, Superman Ultimate Escape, Batman Knight Flight, X-Flight...paving the way to Six Flags Ohio success
I love the DC Comic names. But they gotta come up with better describing names. Instead of Batman: The Ride, it should have been Batman: Escape from The Joker. And each 6 of the B:TR's should be themed after a battle between Batman and a villian. SFO needs a 270+ ft. hyper. A standard coaster would sure do it. They have such an exciting line up, and maybe in due time, a 4th dimension and a tall hyper would really give CP reason to start worrying. But they should also make the park nice. Queueing tickets, gardens and trees, nice pathways, and friendly employees would destroy CP as the only spectacular park in the area.
With the addition of this coaster, Six Flags Ohio will have the most diverse and most different coaster collection in Ohio...
-Floorless
-Suspended Impulse
-Flying Dutchman
If you ask me this is the park that Six Flags should use as a haven for most unusual coasters which could set them apart from the competition.

This park still has a long way to go before it will start stealing people away from CP. I am not really fond of the name chosen, but I do aplaud SF for coming up with something different, if not all that creative. There is still a lot that can be done with the superhero themes. Unfortunately, SF keeps reusing the same or similar names and don't tap the whole of the DC Comics line-up.

BY THE WAY

There is a debate going on of how some like the name and some don't, in my own opinion, I believe the name makes no sense, I mean, X on the west coast has a futuristic symbol-like name to it, or its undescribable so they gave it this letter.......but X-flight? Please. What does the x stand for? X-treme? Xerox? xylophone?

Also, the BIG thing that bugs me is that they have Batman in a western area, and Superman in a 50's area, they "should have" complimented this ride with a superman theme, like Krypton Comet, Speeding Bullet, Lois Lanes school for gifted hangliders, or Metropolis Airways.

Its just the point I am making. And yes, I am just happy to have a coaster... its just the attention to detail and themeing in the area of the park that irritates me.

Though SFO has great rides, and is very enjoyable, the park is not up to the Six Flags quality of themeing...yet.
I think jp is right about one more great coaster. It will most definetly be a hyper since they're expanding into areas w/out height limits(I think could be wrong). Also I wish SFO would replace Serial Thriller in a few years('05' or '06' maybe) for a 6 to 8 inversion B&M invert then I think this park will be one of the greatest, coaster collection and all. *** This post was edited by Matt13 on 1/6/2001. ***
John Peck,

I think that SF is trying to capitalize on the big X-treme fad out there now. I do however think that it is a fad. What are they going to do in a few years when that is no longer popular and they have a multi-million dollar piece of steel named for an out-dated fad?
ITS A CLONE, AHH THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR, YOUR DISSAPOINTMENT.
