Six Flags New Orleans

There is a huge lawsuit pending over Joker's Revenge ( see People Magazine). Why would Six Flags put themselves in that position again?

I don't read People, sorry....but I'm thinking that Turning the Beat (er, um trains) Around....that might be the "cause" of the injuries. OK, before you flame away, realize that the same *claim* (validity notwithstanding) was made in regards to AE. The public DOES seem to believe that backwards makes a coaster more "dangerous" (How I wish you could hear the Steve Irwin in my voice when I say that)...so, if the legal *issue* surrounding JR specifically mentions the backwards orientation, SF would likely ONLY run the coaster "straight"....probably wouldn't even "fix" it for Halloween if there's legal trouble involved....

What exactly is the legal issue over JR?

Top 3 Steel:
#1 Millenium Force
#2 Rock N' Rollercoaster (What!? I thought it was fun!)
#3 Manhattan Express

Head injury resulting in trauma, memory loss, etc. Six Flags has been there done that style with SFKK's T2 and a few of the other chain's Vekoma SLCs.
RCDB lists the new triple looper as having the name Jester which really would fit in with the colors Joker's Revenge had, so I'm thinking it's the one you're looking for! The Press Release also said that it would be located in the Mardi Gras section, so I guess it's not a Batman villain. ;) http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail2217.htm

Yeup. It kind of all settles into place nicely. Because Batman's arch nemesis Joker is basically a form of the Jester-like character (one who plays pranks and entertains with silly costumes), the park is set to go with the same colors. Plus, "Jester" kind of goes with the whole flashy bright and loud Mardi Gras scene.

As you read...

"We're building a Gotham City area that will have four rides, including the Batman roller coaster, and the Batman stunt show,” said Story. “Additionally there will be a roller coaster in the Mardi Gras section. It will be called the Jester, and this roller coaster you will ride backwards."

This kinda of confirms that the ride will be joker's revenge..I've never rode on it before..but if its really that rough and a big lawsuit going on for the ride..why would they bring it over to SFNO?

by the way..the link has a nice animation of Batman The Ride

Well, Fiesta wants to get rid of Joker's Revenge, they didn't even want to spend the money this year to fix whatever was wrong with the trains. It certainly matches the description given in the Six Flags New Orleans press release too.

They did not close Joker at Fiesta Texas because of the lawsuit, however. It operated for quite awhile after that case popped up, and they even tried to cushion the OTSR's a little more which made the ride somewhat bearable.

I agree, sounds like the 2nd coaster at SF New Orleans is going to be Joker's Revenge.

I don't think much of the lawsuit, if I remember right, it was filed something like 2 years after the person claims to have ridden the ride. I didn't find Joker's Revenge any worse than some of the other Arrow and Vekoma multi-inversion coasters out there, and it was certainly smoother than some I've ridden.

Poor guys, if I was living in New Orleans I think I would actually rather have Shockwave than Joker's Revenge.

-nevermind, didn't see the rcdb thing

Amusement Business reports that Jazzland's second steel coaster next year is in fact manufactured by Vekoma.. Now, who made Joker's Revenge, which is around 1,900ft with 3 inversions??

I wouldn't count on Joker going to another SF park.

Care to suggest what other 3 inversion, 1900' Vekoma that you can ride backwards it could be then?

Look ar RCDB, it says "relocated to Six Flags New Orleans as Jester" for Joker's Revenge. Woah, I've actually ridden that! I'm not used to talking to far away parks with coasters I've ridden.

Hmmm, looks like the SF Ride Rotation program is alive and well again. My question, how long before Flashback at SFMM moves again or Batman: the Escape at SFAW?

I don't know, I'm glad for SFNO - however if I was them I would feel a little gyped by getting two "used" coasters.

However I would feel even more gyped if I was SFKK - though I am glad that ViperWave is closer to home again.

This is a pretty good move for SF IMO. 20 million and they're getting an invert, a vekoma sit-n-s**t, and LOTS of general improvements. It's a fiscally sound move that should result in profits for Jazzland.

...liking the name Jester, and keeping the backwards rides ROCKS...a "used Beemer", that's a BAD thing? since I am "da gator", and have no SF "homepark" (or CF homepark or Paramount homepark, do I even have *a home*, lol), it looks like these "stationary gypsies" may get our SF passes at Marie Laveaux's House of Horrors...(my entry in the "name the park" contest that never came to be)....bummer....

edit: looking up rcdb a little further, (that site ROCKS, btw) it appears that there is an identical twin to JR, er, um, Jester (must run the cars forwards apparently), a production model Hurricane. The web is SO cool, I can sit here and ask if anyone has ridden Comet Space at Walibi Schtroumpf in Maizières-les-Metz, France? Copy/paste is SO much easier than trying to spell that stuff...

I've ridden Joker's Revenge at SFFT and they always ran the trains backwards. That is how it was designed from the beginning. The big lawsuit was a lady that was injured because of the OTSR (what a shock there). Her biggest complaint was that it "changed her personality". If only it were that easy, I would encourage some people I know to ride it a few times. It's a Vekoma coaster (which you can easily tell by looking at it) and it's fairly rough. From what I've heard, it didn't run for the 2002 season because of something to do with the trains requiring "major" repairs. So, there it sat SBNO for the entire season. One of the trains was on the transfer track until about mid season and then dissappeared. The last time I was there during Fright Fest in October, they hadn't begun removing the ride in anyway. I'm sure by now, it's probably being packed in bubble wrap and on it's way to be "jazzed up".
