Six Flags Magic Mountains' Deja Vu stalls in cobra roll

Posted | Contributed by xbombman

Deja Vu, one of Magic Mountain's latest coasters, rolled back Saturday morning while in the cobra roll. Guests were evacuated through use of the catwalk.

In other news, Thrill Shot remains closed and Psyclone's trains have recieved a fresh coat of paint.

Well the SFGAm version had problems in cold weather. I took a look at records for Saturday and found that the low in Valencia was 48 F and the high was a cool by CA standards 59 F, with an avg. temp of only 51 F. Now it was a bit colder here in Illinois when we were having the slower trains problem (they we a hell of a lot slower than usual anyways) Ours never go caught in the cobra roll though.

Ride-Op - ACN has a good relationship with a few employees who works at the park.  We would not ever trespass where we are not allowed to obtain pictures.

You should make sure you know whats up before throwing accusations around.

When I went to SFMM in late January, Deja Vu was closed.  I asked one of the ride ops on X what the deal was with it.  She called it the SFMM "Problem Child" and stated that the ride does not open when the temperatures are below mid-50's.  I'm not too sure if there is any truth in this, but it does seem to make sense as posts above mention cold weather slows it down.
That is true.  Deja Vu can not operate when its cold outside (I believe mid-50's like you said).  Ninja is another ride that can not operate under 65 degrees.  X, on the other hand, can operate in cold weather, but if there is a drop of rain they have to close it.

Deja Vu has been a "problem child" for us employees at SFGA since the damn thing was started.

Its a new ride, so It's in a "TRIAL AND ERROR" period, seeing what it can and can't do.

the thing im wondering is how those people in the back managed to get to the catwalk, the back seems pretty far away from it.  my god i'd be petrified getting out of those back seats...
I would imagine they'd probably have to push the train forward a little and anchor it so it doesn't roll back.  But that's just my speculation, I've not seen it done on an Invert... only on a normal boomerang.

Great job ACN!

Vekoma = problems
vekoma does = problems, they cant seem to do anything right nowadays do they?
I was at SFMM on  Sat when the darn thing broke down,it broke down around 2pm;which at the time befre it broke down had a 2 hour wait time just to ride the darn thing, but I was really looking forward to checking it out,so since I was down there for the whole weekend with my brother;I decided on sunday before heading back to Northern California to stop by SFMM on my way back home, and guess what???? The darn thing was still down, and sitting in the same place where it stalled. I also remembered when i was at SFMM last month for the seasonpass holder party for X;DEJaVa was down then as well, and the weather was great that day.
Perhaps the towers could've been taller...

I wonder how long Six flags will put up with these problems?  I love the ride, but all in all, it was probably a bad descision for six flags.

Hello God? Oops, that's just a moderator.

I think that Ozzyhead is totally right.  The towers should be like 30-50 ft higher and then it should make it back.  Is it just me or is DejaVu' just stalling on the way back?  I think that it could be the second tower.
No , its not just you. It makes sense that the backwards trip into the cobra roll would be slower because the vertical loop is taking away alot of the momentum on the return trip into the cobra roll. I know some people wouldnt be happy, but if they continue having ultra-slow momentum into the cobra roll , the vertical loop might be an option to remove.

Im going to grab a cold one! WHAT? Walk to my computer! WHAT? Turn the thing on! WHAT? Log on to Coasterbuzz! WHAT? I said log on to Coasterbuzz!! WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?
Leaving work today, I saw that the train was removed from the track.

Why does Riddler's line move so slow?
It's sponsored by AOL. ;)
I was at SFMM yesterday (Monday Feb 18) and from ourfirst ride on X you could see the train on the cobra roll. A few hrs later we made our way to the Surfside Grill right near Deja Vu and there were three-four mechanics on TOP on Deja Vu working on the trains. At this point, we didnt know why it was up there. After eating we rode Goldrusher, Riddler (45min line), and Batman. After our ride on batman, the trains were no longer on the cobra roll. Didnt see HOW they got them down, but they were down. We didnt go back to that side of the park.

My other car is a Giovanola!
I was shocked that so many parks were willing to sign on for a Deja Vu after the notorious valleying problems with their predecessors.  Vekoma had the opportunity to correct a basic flaw in the boomerang/invertigo design with these coasters; instead it looks like they just reproduced it on a larger scale.

Seems to me that Ozzyhead has a point, that if the towers were a teensy bit taller, the trains would have enough speed to crawl through the cobra roll...or, the vertical loop could be a "bit" higher, giving the train a little extra *kick* before entering the cobra roll...
I was there when it happened and it was REALLY slow going through the cobra roll.  Also as I was in line for Psyclone it looks like there are brakes in the beggning of the roll, WHY?
Yeah but remember you dont want the forces to be too strong going either forwards or backwards. I would assume that Vekoma has already been down the line of "risk v reward" tradeoffs.
