Because when Kinzel ran the place it was absolutely a thing.

I've heard rumors that Superman will be redone with an S&S launch, which would be incredible.

S&S makes a great launch ride (hello MaxxForce aka Maxxine), and those trains are the most comfortable since the 80s. I hope you're right Travis! That superman ride is a heap, and loud as heck.

To whom is MaxxForce also known as Maxxine? And dear God, why?

We need more Maxforce launches in the U.S. So beautifully forceful and even kind of scary. And it makes a cool sound.

You're probably referring to their errant social media post where they (or an uninformed intern) associated themselves with Superman. They posted a correction a few days later.

If a company does repurpose Superman, I hope they find a way to leverage the rollback into an energy collecting braking system. I don’t know if S&S recaptures energy on their tower rides, but it seems like an opportunity that is ideal for a California amusement park.

Maybe Zamperla can do it. They can add a back spike!

(Grabs tin foil hat...) Perhaps the mistake was made because there's something to it?

Or not. Sometimes a mistake is just a mistake.

Fun:

energy collecting braking system

It's certainly not out of the question. Rides like TTD and even MF have had me wondering the same for decades when it seems like so much energy is lost at the end of the ride. The big problem is that the braking force requires the energy collection to work. If a wire is disconnected or a circuit is broken, no more brakes. Of course, there could be a completely redundant set of other brakes, but I suspect the cost and risk are not (yet) worth the recapture.
