Six Flags Magic Mountain has permanently closed the Superman: Escape from Krypton shuttle roller coaster, citing its end of service life.

I recall some of the conversations I had with the park's VP of Engineering. The big issue with the ride was the enormous amount of power that was required to operate it. They had to install a separate sub station just for that attraction. That was one of the major reasons that they eventually ran only one side.

They should convert it to a hydraulic launch, just to be contrarian.


Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"

They should add a swing launch since that's the key to making 100 mph less exciting.

Honestly, S:TE was already the least exciting way to get to 100 mph. I think it took 8s to hit max speed.

The poor guy that operates the Dippin Dots cart under the ride is breathing a sigh of relief. He should have been given military grade hearing protection.
