Six Flags Magic Mountain permanently closing Superman

Six Flags Magic Mountain has permanently closed the Superman: Escape from Krypton shuttle roller coaster, citing its end of service life.

I recall some of the conversations I had with the park's VP of Engineering. The big issue with the ride was the enormous amount of power that was required to operate it. They had to install a separate sub station just for that attraction. That was one of the major reasons that they eventually ran only one side.

They should convert it to a hydraulic launch, just to be contrarian.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

They should add a swing launch since that's the key to making 100 mph less exciting.

Honestly, S:TE was already the least exciting way to get to 100 mph. I think it took 8s to hit max speed.

The poor guy that operates the Dippin Dots cart under the ride is breathing a sigh of relief. He should have been given military grade hearing protection.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

As a great ride. I’d imagine the upkeep costs a small fortune given the tech.

The grapevine is after the new suspended and the ongoing glow up, the ninja mountain will be redone.

Im curious to see if we lose Viper or Ninja, a full service restaurant should be put up there, and the observation tower restored.

I read the other day where someone had seen an elevator on the tower going up and down. Not open, but somewhat working and they saw it as a good sign.
I went on that unique tower years ago and I was impressed by the sense of great height it provides. I hope it stays.

The park president said it’s definitely staying and getting restored when possible.

But I think mainly in next year’s budget. With the waterpark, goliath paint, new bathroom, restaurant improvements, redone sign, taking up this year’s general maintenance focus.

I'm just curious if you whack off the launch track on Superman and the station but leave the tower and drops what you can do on that hill.

Anything more than just being curious about that might be illegal.

I do find it funny Luthor regained the drop tower crown, as did TT2 with height, but both will lose it again once SF Qiddiya opens. I also find it interesting the Sirocco tower is S&S and not Intamin.
