Six Flags Magic Mountain announces Tatsu, a B&M flying coaster. The ride will have a 170-foot tall lift, reaching speeds of 62 mph over 3,602 feet of track. The first drop will be 111 feet and the ride will have a 124-foot pretzel loop.

I've never visited SFMM, but would like to someday. Theis coaster does look pretty cool. However, the mentality is "let's build a coaster at park "X" and call it a day" to get attendance up. While other coasters go SBNO for weeks at a time.

The video is edited to be a marketing tool, not just to entertain Keith2005. I'm sure they could have just as easily released a full POV but obviously the park requested something different. As for saying "Eh" to this layout...seriously, what would you have prefered? I think the general consesus is that this layout is as expansive and creative as anyone had expected, but I guess someone had to find something to complain about at some point.
Don't be mad, I have a link for ya!

this shows a better version of the one on the actual Six Flags site pluse 2 versions of the POV!

Cool, thanks for the link, does give a better idea of the layout.

As far as it not hugging the terrain, that's probably better left to other types of coasters like those at the park that already do. One of the problems I had with Stealth was the visuals. Because of the riding position, all I could see the entire time is blurred sky and ground. With Tatsu's placement on top of the mountain, you can see in the video that you'll be soaring and flipping high in the sky while being able to see the ground, other rides and distant horizons way below, will truly give the effect of riding a flying dragon!

Although not specifically mentioned, I guess this makes not opening up Sky Tower a bad idea. I just realized that on the six flags site some of the pictures were taken from Sky Tower. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this hasn't been open to the public for awhile now, right? So at least its workable and they seem to plan on utilizing it...

I'm very impressed, looks like a kickass ride.*** This post was edited by Willh51 11/17/2005 9:34:58 PM ***

This ride looks amazing! It really shows the true potential of flying coasters. Just a quick question/thought: I remember reading when X-Flight/Batwing were being built that flying coasters could not perform corkscrews because of the forces on the riders, I'm guessing this was just a myth?
Money and distance have been what's kept me from getting California in the past. And I've been so close to going out for a while now...Tatsu has sold me on it now! I've ridden a few flyers now, and I've never been overly impressed by them. But I'm excited for this one.
X-Flight and Batwing both have inline corkscrews at the end before the helix. While not as wide as say a corkscrew on an Arrow coaster, I would think it would be possible.
Borg Ass. has real corkscrews.

I hear they suck, though.

Borg Ass = Teh SuX0rz!

Sorry Carolinians, you guys got shafted.

As for the Californians, what an awesome looking ride! It's got great looking colors so its got to be good ;)

OMG, What the hell! This looks amazing! Man, now I really wish Gadv could have that ride layout for Superman: Ulitmate Flight. Damn, now who do I know in California?
Omg, and its not a parking lot coaster, with it being in the trees with the terrain it almost looks buschgardens esc, Way to go sfmm, u might have learned something here......

Nice layout...shame its being built in a park that sucks.
Why so much hate for BORG? I thought it was pretty decent. I look at Tatsu and go "Hey, they got it right, no clone, decent elements, custom terrain, spends time high up off the ground, as well as swooping down to the ground".

Then I remember where it is going, and I cry inside. Maybe one day SFMM will live up to it's full potential. I could honestly like SFMM FAR better than Cedar Point, which I really like, but not in it's current state. Course, they'd have to fix the park first, then add a dark ride and some decent flats first too...

You know what Mamoosh, comments like yours are so childish, just shows me what kinda man you are!

I actually like SFMM and there coasters, Tatsu will be an outstanding addition, I for one are looking forward riding it

He's childish because he thinks a park sucks? Nice first post.

Sorry, Alex. I didn't realize I wasn't able to form and express my own opinion. I am not alone in my distaste for the park. If you enjoy it, fine...I [and many, many others] do not.
Actually over 3 million people enjoy the park each and every year!

I know this is a CP bias board, but at one point it is just enough! Besides Flashback, every Coaster is running with multiple trains, the park has exeptional landscaping and outstanding waterrides, it's a great place to spent a day, period, comments like " to bad tatsu is in a park that sucks" is maybe your personal opinion, but rather banal for my taste.

That's all, for my 2 cents, I am glad that SFMM will get an incredible coaster, I will enjoy it, if you are not in line for it, the better it is for me!

Don't label my opinion as pro-CP, I am not a fan of Cedar Point. In fact I haven't visited CP since Millie opened and have no desire to do so anytime soon.

My distaste for SFMM is well-documented so I won't open that can-o-worms again. I'm glad you enjoy SFMM...and you'll notice that I'm not bashing your opinion even though it differs from mine. Is showing me the same respect too much to ask?

Again, I agree that Tatsu looks great.

It's an incredible layout, great location, and I'm really looking forward to the ride. It's great that we have a park like SFMM here in the area that rises to the occasion to deliver coasters because it simply isn't happening at Knott's, Universal, or Disney. I'm very glad we have different options when we are looking for a theme park visit.
