Six Flags Magic Mountain announced yesterday the construction of Scream, a 150-foot tall B&M floorless coaster that will feature that will feature the usual sequence of inversions. The ride will have about 4,000 feet of track.

From the pages of Captain Obvious Issue #56, "Death takes a Trip to Limited Express"...

"As a matter of fact, that outfit does not make your butt look big. I think it has more to do with that two-box-of-Cocoa-Puffs-a-day habit."

(Store falls strangely silent as all eyes turn to our hero)

"That....wasn't a thought balloon, was it?"

Six Flags Silly names: Round two!

It looks like fun, but it's not a clone, if the description is to be belived. Medusa East has a similar layout, but the first "speed hill" is closer to a "brake run."

It is all about getting in the locals, and records (i.e. speed, most coasters) brings in people, locals or no. I think it is a competition

Besides, SFI did not "lie". They made an error...

Nobody said they did. My point simply is that, as a general rule in public statements, all companies (in any industry) ought to strive to be as accurate as possible, and not issue statements that are false--no matter how 'minor' or 'insignificant.' But "false" doesn't imply "intentional."

I didn't think he made a error with saying S:TE is the only coaster that goes 100mph. It is the only coaster that goes 100mph, Dodonpa goes 107, its like bending the truth a little. Does the one in Dream World go 100mph? If it does than that statement is a little lie, its nothing serious so its not worth stressing over. And I don't think its a clone, similar layout yea but almost all B&M loopers have the inversion pattern. It could have a straight or a curving drop and that sets the tone for the course so you can't tell if its a clone or not. With the height and speed statistics that fits Medusa West description.

Scream was done by Dimension films. Which i believe but don't qoute me, is own by Disney. ~~~evolution the doom of man~~~~~

Let me assume *my* alter ego as Six Flags Brat and say further that S:TE is the only thrill ride to be consistantly measured in "British" units so would be the only one to be recorded in mph. The Aussies and japanois use metric so Dodonpa and ToT were *likely* measured in kph (kilometres per hour). Okay, that's streching it to say the least.

And to Captain (E) O. a woman doesnt *start* looking good tills she hits 150# :)

mrk468zz, I guess we'll have to take the old "agree to disagree" road. To me a creative wording (error or not) as an afterthought in a press statement who's majority is regarding something different entirely is irrelevant. Accuarcy and hype (or selling) are two totally different things and I prefer it that way. People who care will always know the truth anyway.

SFMM *DOES* have every type of coaster out there, "screams" SFMM marketing...wood AND steel! Take that!
Ahhhh Scream! It's also a Misfits songs from 1999. George Romero directed the video and it would make a great soundtrack for the ride! But it kinda sucks that B&M really produces these cut and paste rides (like a modern arrow). I'm tired of the big loop after drop, only one barrel roll, and the cork-turn-cork element. Throw in some REAL speed bumps, tunnels, etc. I'm sure it will still kick booty...

I found it kind of funny that they had that quote from Paul Ruben saying that SFMM now has every possible type of coaster.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same guy that always goes around saying there are 31 (or something) different types of coasters!?

Is SBNO one of the 31 types? Flashback has that covered most of the time,
Paul Ruben saids "a Floorless is the only type of coaster missing from SFMM's lineup"

WHAT?

How about a flying, an S&S air-thrust, an intamin GIG, any kind of wild mouse, or a woodie that doesnt suck. A floorless is a nice addition, but not all that different from a standup. Would've liked to see a flyer, an air-thrust, or a spinning wild mouse. *** This post was edited by LoadedG on 11/15/2002. ***

Mr. Ruben is certainly one of the most veteran, established and well travelled journalists in the field, and has made a great contribution to coastering for over twenty years. But he is also prone to hyperbole. I remember last year when he was out here hyping S:ROS - SFNE as the "greatest coaster on the planet", you rocket into a tunnel at hyperspeed, can't catch your breath, nothing like it on earth. Then again, that is what he says about every coaster. Come on Paul, keep it in your pants!
Odd... Riddler's Revenge is my favourite coaster at SFMM because it just so well designed in regards to physics... it's always a religious experience to me to fly at such enormous speeds and height, upside down etc. And still experience only subtle changes of vertical and lateral G's... some people criticize just that, but I think it's perfect.
Somehow to think they'll do that AGAIN is great, but firstly I don't see how anything COULD be as great as Riddler and secondly what SFMM really misses is the rough expressiveness of a Intamin Hyper.
Goliath might be great, but the Intamin hyper coasters are a different experience alltogether.

I couldn't imagine SFMM getting something as family-friendly and smooth as a B&M hyper... that wouldn't fit the parks otherwise rather rough attitude.
Somehow, this new floorless definitely has to cover ground RR already covers extremely well... no wonder it will be located on the other side of the park.

Personally, I'd like to read the press release from SFMM that proudly proclaims "New for 2003... We cleaned!"

This whole discussion makes me want to

SCREAM!

Who cares?

Who cares?

Obviously the 50 other people who replied to this thread, that's who...

As for companies trying to be acurate in their marketing, give me a friggin break. Ever seen a car commercial???

And that's just for starters...

"Escuse me, can you tell me where the heck the Mystery Lodge is"?

I dont why SFMM got a floorless.

A B&M flyer or veritical drop coaster is what they really needed.

Doesnt X provide the floorless experience already? I suppose it provides the flying and vertical experience too.

I'd really like to see an Intermin hyperRocket with twisted towers or a Full-loop Wicked twister with connecting towers!

Nothing here.
