Six Flags Great America

hey... to everyone who works at the bull, it's a real honor. Ride ops is my ultimate goal for a part-time future job. Unfortunatly the closest park I live to is Fun Spot... and last I heard their main operating ride was a really big guy who picked you up and threw you off an apple cart.
Kudos to all raging bull ride ops... I was there during the summer last year and you guys did a fantastic job.

favorite ride at SFGA... let's see. Well I love arrow... and would go with shock wave... except of course for the head-banging, neck-bruising, and general migraine causing roughness. Because of those and many other reasons, raging bull remains firmly in 1st place with me!
Long live B&M!

My favorite ride is probably the bull, but the again what about Viper! I mean is one of the best woodies I've ridden, and it's very underrated. In the back seat, it's airtime galore. That's what a wooden coaster is all about.(In my opinion) So I think that the best ride at SfGAm is between the bull and Viper.

I give credit to the Bull crew as well. They, as well as most of the crews, did a good job at the park. They really showed that the name Six Flags doesn't always mean poor service.

Now the Iron Wold crew... they made Mantis'99 look fast. No comment.

No, but it is starting to stand for an extra long wait at the gates thanks to metal detectors. ;)

Raging Bull (to answer the question)
Raging Bull is my fav, with Viper and Batman close behind.

Get wrapped in the coils of Viper at SFGAm.
Raging Bull is also my favorite. When the line is full, I have never waited over an hour. The Bull's line is constantly moving, and I give you all credit. If the Bull was down, I would have to choose Batman. The ride is so intense, and I love it. But next year my opinoin may change, we'll just have to wait and see......

"4 Seats are better than 2"
The Bull is the best and the line is always moving for that ride. I do agree that the Viper is deeply under-rated! That is the best wood coaster in the midwest. The Viper has awesome airtime and you really get lifted off your seat, awesome airtime!!
Best part was possibly on my first day out there.
I was wearing a Son Of Beast shirt.
The op obviously caught this and instead of the usual spiel, he uttered
'We're gonna take ya up 214 feet, and turn ya upside down once on America's tallest and only looping wooden rollercoaster, The Son Of Beast.'
This cemented the Bull crew as the best.

My favorite ride at SFGA is the Bull. 2nd is Batman and 3rd is Viper. I agree with you all, Raging Bull ops are the best in the park. Line keeps moving.

Hey, are there any Iron Wolf ride ops on this site from the 2000 season? Jeff has a bone to pick with you. LOL!!!!

"Since you guys have first hand experince of Raging Bull, and I'm sure you sometimes work the gate, I hoped you could answer my question.

What is the average wait for Raging Bull in July and August? I ask, because I hope to go to SFGAm this year, and I want some insight on waiting times."

Well, that's kind of tricky. In 1999, when the Bull was new, it was basically 45min - 1hr everyday, weekends it would be longer. But this year, it wasn't too bad, usually no longer than 20minutes midday in July/early August.

Now, this year, SFGAm is "most likely" (ahem) adding a couple of new attractions. Nothing has been announced yet, so I'm not quite sure what those attractions could be (ahem). But, if it holds true, said attractions will most likely bring in a lot more guests to the park, resulting in longer lines everywhere. Either way, the Bull will be doing fin on weekdays during the middle of the day...I wouldn't expect it to max out over 45 mins. Also, approx 30 mins before closing, the line dies down *significantly*, so you should plan on making that your last rides, as you could possibly get two rides in under 30 mins.

That's my advice, hope it's accurate!

Heh heh heh...You weren't there on a Sat, Sun, Mon, or Tues this year, were ya? I wonder who could have said that. ;)

So glad you enjoyed the spiel! We do try our best to make everyone have a great day.

All this praise is making me want to operate more than ever now! You guys are great, and we'll keep up the good work in 2001 I'm sure. If only it were May riiiiight about now.

Legendary,

I was with Big Kappa and we were at the park on a Monday and Tuesday. Could you possibly be Joe, whom we picked as Six Flags employee of the year? He went above and beyond his duties at Raging Bull.

And there was one other employee, didn't get his name, that was working Sky Whirl on Monday. Very outgoing and even asked the riders on the spinning wheels if they were enjoying their ride.

So nice when the employees go out of their way to make the visitor feel most welcome. That's why SFGAm is one classy park.

BTW, you guys at SFGAm need to come over to my home park, SFO, and show those guys how to properly execute coaster trains, especially now that we have X Flight coming in. ;)

Has the Raging Bull ever been closed for a whole operating day?? Because, that would be a major disappointment if I went to Great America and it was closed! *** This post was edited by SFGA_FAN on 1/23/2001. ***

Yes, in fact my name is Joe. I guess that was me! Do I get a plaque for my accomplishment as Six Flags employee of the year? LOL! Thanks for the compliment! :)

After travelling all over the country to parks, I have realized that SFGAm does in fact, have some of the very best ride ops in the industry, if I do say so myself. I can only credit that to the in-depth training we get during park orientation and from our supervisors who really do care about how the park is run. They do a fantastic job I like to think.

About SFO...yes, I *wish* I could operate BKF! The crews over there for the most part are less than stellar and it really makes me want to teach them a thing or two about guest service. Nothing worse than Batman Knight Flight running two trains and stacking EVERY SINGLE TIME. It really irritates me. Hopefully SFO will learn from its mistakes in '00 and have a strong 2001 season. I should be there opening weekend regardless! :)

Raging Bull is the best coaster in the park
Yes, Row 1 is awesome. I have ridden the first row well over 10 times, and I love it. A great view, and into the tunnle is awesome.....

"4 Seats are better than 2"
The first time I rode the Bull was in the front and I probably waited about 15 minutes extra to get in the front. The next time I went straight to the back that is absolutley the best ride ever. The first time I rode in the back just getting out of the station you get thrown back in your seat, I have never been whipped around (in a good way) like that before. The back is 10 times better than the front.

Q: What exactly is stacking when it comes to running the rollercoasters?
Jeff's avatar
Stacking is the act of having several trains "stacked" one after another outside of the station because the people operating the ride aren't getting people on and off fast enough. This is obviously not desirable because you have to wait longer to ride because throughput is suffering. On a stand-up, it's not fun for the guests on the train, either.
