Six Flags America announces Penquin's blizzard riv

Today's the day that SFA fans have been waiting for all year.

SFA has just announced their new attraction for the 2003 season which will be known as Penquin's blizzard river, the ride will be located in Gotham city which is a bit of a surprise to me as I was expecting it to be located in coyote creek or paradise island, also the new ride will feature the same layout as that of Diablo falls at SFAW,which doesn't surprise me too much.

Construction of Penquin's blizzard river has now begun with an expected opening later this spring & while it isn't much it's certainly better than getting nothing at all.

Funny...I thought you were waiting for a coaster?

Thanks anyway for the news ;)

Where was this announcement made? While I believe it, I can't locate it.
I have a feeling a coaster (my hopes up for Shock/Wave ;)) for next year, or a good beemer. But this is cool, since I saw the one going to Astroworld, and though it would be cool to ride. SFA is spit as one of my 2 home parks(along side PKD).

Maybe this is expecting too much, but will it have be themed in any sort of way? It is in the Batman section, and it is a supervillian(sp?), perhaps an arctic-ish look?

I am not certain that it will have the Penguin/Batman theme...There is already a ride in Gotham City named Penguins Polar Express and that is not "Batman" themed....but if I had to put money on it, I would say that this one will.

They have said that the ride will be in Gotham City, but where?!?!..As it stands right now, GC sprawls out more than the rest of the sections combined. That leaves a lot of locations for this ride.

The ride is good, the themeing looks good, but the colors are BAD. The colors are good for the Diablo Falls ride at sisterpark AstroWorld, but not for a Mr.Freeze/Penguin theme. That should be icy blue.
Jim I got the info & press release on thrillnetwork's homepage & it's official trust me on that.

SFA must be slow in updating the site today because I did check it upon hearing the news but I'm sure it's gonna be updated soon,as for ride location within gotham city I would take it to mean somewhere between Bating & S:ROS or perhaps on the other side of S:ROS's second hill.

I agree with you Tekno about the prospects for a new coaster either in 04 or most certainly by 05 but we'll have to wait & see,I also hope that a new restroom facility is added near the ride because they really need it.

Belgian,I'm not entirely sure if the color scheme will be exactly the same as diablo falls but you're right those colors won't fit the theme well at all.

Have parts started arriving on site with those colors?
I think it's a great addition. SFA needs a family attraction in the lower Gotham City area. Hey, if they have to run water down into that section, maybe they can build a bathroom also:) From what I know, this ride will appear between Batwing and Superman. This could be a very welcome addition on a typical hot, humid day in the Maryland/DC area. The other exciting news I heard from the operations manager last year is that some of the dead-ends would be corrected. Can't wait until April to use my free tickets (a reminder to all who got those during Frightfest), so I can put off the season pass.

I just checked, and the official site has been updated. It shows the same graphic that was on the Astroworld site, but, from the descriptions in the press release, it sounds like it might be more heavily themed. Say goodbye to dry seats on S:ROS and Batwing:)

PT300, you'll have to ask BatwingFanSFA about the mouse.

I must've gotten the info on the mouse wrong but I was hoping it would've happened, after all I was going by info I got on the web.

Perhaps the supports I saw near wild one are for Penquin's blizzard river & not for a wild mouse at all.

Another clone, i hope it's worth it.

never met a coaster I didn't ride (except Junior Geminii) :(

If it's not "officially" announced, I wonder why SF posted it on their own site.

Geeezuz one would think that making 3 slides of the same type more than 1000 miles apart from eachother was some kind of catastophic mistake!

read the release date for the announcement on the site, it clearly says Feb 13th..... knowing how slow the site updates can be, they simply updated early so everyone in the am could get all the info, and not find an updated page.....

Well, I guess the source of information was wrong, or they changed the location. From what I had heard, they were moving the big pumpkin out of the way from Frightfest for a new attraction. That's cool that they're not using the space between Batwing and S:ROS yet. Maybe they could put a junior coaster in that spot. I guess this means no new bathroom again:(
