Six Flags America - Two sections of the park closed

"Whistlestop Park" and "Coyote Creek" closed about halfway through the season last year at Six Flags America. They boarded up the entrances to both sections mid-2022. "The Mind Erasure" and "Renegade Rafters" were in "Coyote Creek". "Whistlestop Park" was an area of the park for young kids. There were 13 attractions in these area that are no longer operating. Looking at the new SFA 2023 map suggests they will be closed for good.

A coaster themed to an 80s synth pop group never made sense in that part of the park anyway.

Hi

That park is terrible. We haven't been since around 2018, and don't plan on returning unless they put something there that I have to ride.

Make sense to close those 2 sections of the park when you don't have the staff. I haven't ridden Mind Eraser since the early 2000's. That's my least favorite coaster in the park.

I used to go to SFA on opening day. They used to open earlier in the season than Hersheypark(my home park,) and now they open the same weekend. I know where I'm heading to ride coasters tomorrow and take a look at the construction of Wildcats Revenge.

Haven’t been there since 2003. Not sure I’ve mentioned that before.

Not since Jeff mentioned that he got a walkdown from the Superman lift and I mentioned that I dislike Busch Gardens Tampa despite not having an actual reason.

And this one time, on Superman...

Six flags is hurting because of their new CEO. his attempt to raise prices without improving. The parks was a disaster. They lost 25% of their attendance, and now they’re trying to gain it back with low pricing again.

so now that they’ve returned to rock-bottom price in the parks are going to be even more trashy than ever

More or less as predicted, although faster than I would have expected, and without the change in CEOs.

I don't think these closures are related to a tight labor market, but rather closed as a cost-cutting measure.

Here is a picture from earlier today showing Coyote Creek walled off. You can see Mind Eraser in the background. Superman is usually running at this park. Sure there are times it's down, but at a minimum there is one train available. This is the first time I have been there where BOTH trains were out for maintenance. I understand maintenance needs to be done, however usually they send out one at a time so the ride can be open at least sometimes. I don't think this ride will be online for 3-4 weeks by the wording of this sign. "All in the name of safety", yeah I get it SF.

That park is terrible.

We had a pleasant time the one and only time we went in the spring of 2021. All of the coasters were open, with the exception of Ragin' Cajun. We didn't wait more than one cycle for any ride. The park was super empty, probably due to the threat of rain.

Mind Eraser isn't even listed on the park website anymore, so I'm assuming that area is set to be closed for the entire season.

These two sections are definitely closed for good from what I can tell. To be honest, I never went to either sections of the park EVER. I didn't like Mind Eraser, don't want to get wet on water rides, and a I have no need to visit the kids park. Here is what was in those two areas from the 2022 SFA park map.

Like Mulfinator I had a few low crowd days there where it was great. Getting to sit on Roar or Superman is worth the trip.

Our experience more recently is like Doublemeattaco's picture above of Superman being closed. As Fun stated earlier, seeing the picture of the wall blocking the entrance to Coyote Creek is completely a cost saving measure. 14 attractions, shop and restaurant closed and SF won't change their pricing.

They are adding a new water coaster for this year(email i got a few weeks back,)so they close 14 mediocre attractions to open one. That only needs staffed for the summer and I bet it's not going to open on time with the water park.

Great Adventure also has two sections (Plaza del Carnival and Frontier Adventures) closed right now. They're saying that side of the park will be closed until Memorial Day weekend. Gotta love Six Flags' new premium experience!

Ditto, but 2022. We were in Baltimore and decided to take a ride over. It was hot AF and a threat of rain. Everyone there was at the water park and we had our run of the place. Did everything we wanted including a few rerides, and got out of there by dinner time before the skies erupted.

Bonus: I didn't pay for parking.

Hi

Used to go to this park a lot when I lived near there like 20+ years ago. The ride ops and customer service was always poor.

Gotta love free parking! We had our memberships and dining plan at the time so we paid nothing for our visit. Incidentally we didn't bring our 2020 cups from home since we figured they would issue us a new one for 2021. Fortunately the staff was super helpful in getting us free drinks for the day.
