Six Flags agrees to invest $25 million in Jazzland

Posted | Contributed by coasterdude87

Two months after Jazzland Theme Park went into bankruptcy, the country's largest regional theme park operator stepped in Monday with an offer to take over the operations of the park and invest $25 million in it over the next three years. Oklahoma City-based Six Flags, becomes the second bidder for the park and the first major amusement park operator to express interest. The other bidder is a little known Florida firm called WAC International.

I knew it!!!

Three quick thoughts:

1) Told ya.

2) Who on earth would invest $100+ million on an amusement park without a waterpark? In the South? Aliens with molten magma in their veins? Wow.

3) Told ya.

Here comes Six Flags New Orleans! Seriously, this should ensure that the park continues operations and improves.

Does anyone know is this means the park will be closed this weekend? I was planning on going but now im not sure if its going to be opened.

Treat others as you would want them to treat you.

As I look into my crystal ball, I see Jazzland getting these known SF attractions.... Ham on Rye, Bungy-trampoline thing, and possibly Lo-Q. But, I also see that they already have some typical SF rides, like a boomerang and skycoaster. Also, I believe they will add a coaster that will bring the peeps in. A compact floorless like B:TDK would fit this park perfectly. Man, would the crowds come rolling in for that baby, or what??

I also wouldn't expect to see it get the name conversion immediately. Maybe in 2-3 years, but not now..

I don't know if the crowds will ever really roll into Jazzland, no matter who the owner is or what new coaster is there. New Orleans is not really a family destination and for those who do go there, theme parks are not the attraction. True, there is little or no local competition from other parks, but Burbon Street is the main attraction in NO.

Even if Six Flags pours 25 mil into the park, I doubt that attendance figures will rise significantly. Don't get me wrong, I want Jazzland to succeed, but it is "demographicly challenged."

Nothing... NOTHING... can prepare you for... the Fourth Dimension!

If they promise to shoot the next Girls Gone Wild there and pass out beads, I'm sure they can pack in the crowds and sell a drink or two. ;)

I'm there if they do that!

Intersting. I thought there was talking of Cedar Fair buying Jazzland a while back.

I can't really forsee this becoming a major park in the SF system, for the same reasons Soggy mentioned. It'll be another SFKK or SFEG.
I think they should keep the Jazzland name. Six Flags: Jazzland is not a bad name. provide them with a nice opportunity to incorporate some of the local culture into the park.

I think Six Flags Jazzworld sounds better
I don't know if they'll completely change the name, just to Six Flags Jazzland

Coaster count so far this year: 1. What a way to start the year off though: Cyclone at Coney Island!

.....how's about "Six Liquors over Nawlins", or better yet, "Marie Laveaux's Land of Enchantment"...(if you don't get that one, perhaps a little remedial voodoo would help)....

PLEASE SIX FLAGS! Don't clone B-TDK! Keep it original and build a new custom B&M.

Original? Honestly how original is it, really?

No B&M! Now due to the fact that many of you are B&M fanatics and I am a slight one myself, if the park wants to succeed without risk, B&M is out of the question. If you want them to spend about half the money that the WHOLE park cost for a medium sized coaster that the GP will complain is not as fast as the one they rode in Texas or Florida. An intamin hyper jr. with popular features like Goliath SFH would be a much better choice or possibly (and don't slaughter me for this) an Arrow or Morgan hyper, I mean how many of you guys love Maggie or Steel Force? Why did they suddenly become such a forgotten choice. Arrow may be bumpy but I've never heard a bumpy complain on any of their hypercoasters than Desperado. And both Maggie and Steel Force made the top 10 coasters of 2000 so bring some of their magic back, the GP won't know any better.

My 300th post!!! Alright!!!

Exactly, B:TDK is not that original. It blends the compactness of batman the ride with the already established floorless style. I GUARANTEE Six Flags will clone this ride like mad. It's no use fighting it, it's pretty much gonna happen.
