Simon Cowell disses Idol hopeful

For all those American Idol addicts, did you catch when Simon Cowell compared Kimberly Caldwells performance to a show at Six Flags, (translation, it was mediocre) Is this an indication of how the GP views Six Flags?....hmmmm

I'm inclined to agree that the general perception of ANY park's entertainment is viewed as "sub-par" by the average Joe when compared to superstars such as what American Idol is seeking. I'll qualify that with this though--- there are many, many great performers at many of the parks around the country, Six Flags and otherwise. Sure, they might not be superstars, but how many coaster enthusiasts on this board (who are still great "performers" when it comes to coaster facts) can be a coaster knowledge superstar like RideMan? :)

I so wish i had seen that, American Idol is the only show(besides Simpsons) i even watch anymore, and i just love that Simon!

Yeah, if coasters WEREN'T men we'd have Raging Cow instead!;)
I think it's kind of weak for a Simon Cowell insult. Besides he already used that insult a couple of weeks ago. Many themepark performers can go onto better things like Broadway, so I'm told. I saw a pop music show at SFA last year, and it was really good with fast pacing and cool lighting.

How dare the compare Kimberly Caldwell's performance to Six Flags. Don't offend Six Flags like that. I don't think Simon has even said Six Flags exactly, but he has compared them to amusement park entertainers. I think the best entertainers are at Disney and Busch Gardens, because they care the most. Busch has some amazing shows.

Off topic part: I love Kimberley Locke and Ruben! I hope either one of them win. I think Ruben has it locked, but Clay could sneak up on him.

Also, on the show on Tuesday, they said Simon was #7 on Top # Sexiest Males. Spongebob Squarepants got #6! Go Spongebob!

Free Falls on Drop Zone: 5!
Batwing Flights: 2!
Superman: Ride of Steel Airtime-age: 4!

He did say Six flags directly, the second time he used the insult. But it's only a partial insult. He was just trying to say that the performance was fine, but generic. I think that's a fair assessment of most (certainly not all) amusement park performers.
No, it's not how the GP views SF. As you said, he said a show at SF, not the park itself.

RCTfan, Kimberley Locke lives a few miles from me.

Why am I replying here? I hate these shows.

As I recall, on the first AI, EJ or RJ made it well into the final rounds before being elimintated. He worked at Six Flags Over Georgia.

But then again, I don't watch stupid shows like American Idol.

------------------
Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I understand the performing in Orlando now is considered kind of a stepping stone to being on Broadway.
Again, when Simon stated earlier in the season a person's performance was "Six Flags quality" he explained it was a good performance, but that doesn't mean that it was a performance equal to what he expects of the "next American Idol".

I have to agree...I mean seriously, while performers at amusement parks are good, would I buy a CD from one of them?

But the more pertnent fact is that Kim Caldwell used to live and perform in Branson, Mo. I'm not sure if they said @ Silver Dollar City exactly, but definitely Branson.

BTW: America *blew* it last night. Carmen is horrible and now we have to sit through her for *another* week. As it is right now, anyone left besides Carmen *could* win. That is to say that they all have enough talent.

(In reverse order of how I think they rank)

Trenyce: Though I dont like her look, when she puts a song together, like with the Whitney song, she throws down. Too bad she is so inconsistent

Josh: Has the "All-American Boy/White Girl's dream" going for him. But youngsta's dont like country so that's going to hurt in the end.

Kim Locke: I thought from the beginning that she would win. She struggled a bit when the finals first started, but she's picked it up the last few weeks and now she has old Uncle Mo' on side.

Clay: The Underdog. I bet when they first showed his audition and he said "I saw the show last year and I could have been in the top ten" everyone was like "Yeah....RIGHT...". But the dude can blow. His only downside is exactly as Simon said, it's a little too "theatrical".

Ruben (aka Roooooo bennn): Has been consistent from day one. This week's show, while still supurb, was not *quite* the best performance. This should give Clay and Kim some confidence that Ruben *can* be beaten. Kinda like how Chuck (and Shaggy too I believe) says that The Legend with PTCs while still great, is now capable of being surpassed in the favorites. BUT, I think Ruben has built up enough 'respect' to carry him all the way through. (Similarly, I believe The Legend, aftter putting a year's worth of mileage on the trains will be back up to snuff)

But either way, I think Kim, Clay, and Ruben will all have albums in stores by Memorial Day 2004. Let's just hope they wont make another "To Ruben and Kim, Love Clay" type movies ;)

Jeremy,

You and I are in agreement in regards to Carmen...

They did mention in a previous episode that Kim C. was an experienced performer in Branson (and showed video too) but I do not recall them mentioning SDC.

Your ranking is what I have too, as my hopes. But as this week proves, talent doesn't always mean that they advance. It showed last week and this week too...when fans of a performer detect that their "fave" is on the edge, they call in droves...and those fans whose favorite is "ok" don't call as much, hence Rickey and this week Kim C. getting the boot before Carmen (While neither would win it all in my opinion they both should have outlasted Treneyce and Carmen)

Jeremy - I agree with your summary of each contestant and that the wrong person was voted off last night. The only change I'd make to your post would be to switch Clay and Kim's positions.

Clay has been consistent from day one but has not strayed from his "formula." And mere seconds before Simon commented on his facial expressions my buddies and I had all said the *exact* same thing. The other thing that bothers me about Clay is that he pronounces every single syllable when he sings instead of just letting the words flow.

On the other hand Kim has grown considerably thru the competition, sounding *and* looking better and better each week.

I'd like to see Kim and Ruben as the final two, although I think Ruben has the win locked.

Moosh, when the groups of eight were first announced, I told "T" that it was going to end up Kim Locke winning it all, Reuben 2nd and Clay 3rd. Personally, I *still* want Kim L to win (I guess that makes me a 'chubby chaser'). I thought the show was going to blow when they put all three in the same group. But I think they had the "wildcard" show planned from the beginning.

The order has fluctuated a little bit over the weeks, including one week were I had to bump Trenyce up to 3rd and K-L down to 4th (when Trenyce sang the Whitney song). But pretty much, I think the three of them are far and away better day-in and day-out than the others. Personally, I'd like to see them skip narrowing it down to two peeps and let all three of them sing for two weeks for the tittle. That would be very entertaining for us, the fans ;)

Jeremy - they've already shown they're willing to change the show format a little...I don't think I've ever heard anyone connected with the show saying it would come down to having to choose between just 2 people.

Carmen is this season's Nikki. Nikki was terrible but made it to the final three. Let's hope Carmen doesn't quite get that far, but I have a feeling we'll see at least one more upset as the field narrows.

So Carmen had a bad night, but I still think she has been great overall. Clay has an incredible voice, and I like his personality and style. He has his own unique qualities that make him distinctive besides having an awesome voice. He reminds me of a young Barry Manilow and he has become a superstar with a career still going strong after three decades. Clay all the way!!
Two good things come out of "American Idol"

1. Simon's hilarious insults.

2. Paula Abdul (Still eye-candy after all these years).

Actually, the show goes beyond the 2 mentioned good points, but these 2 keep me coming back for more. :)

If Simon made any reference to Six Flags, it makes sense because SF is the the most recognized name in the amusement park industry.

Someone has a fat fetish. =P

Anyways, I stopped watching after my boy, Corey Clarke (the allegations are false!) got booted off. First, Frenchie, then Corey. Geez... what do they expect? A bunch of choir boys?! Then again, that wouldn't necessarily be the best thing either in this day and age.

Man, if Corey wasn't kicked off before disco night, he would have ripped it up with some BeeGees!

Ugn, I think your the first person to ever admit that they liked Corey Clark. I was so glad to see him go. He sung horribly, ever week. The next person I can't wait to leave is Josh Gracin. He is only staying because he is a Marine. ;/ You should've seen the smile of glee that came over me when Corey got shafted.

I like Mamoosh and 2Hostyl, they are very wise saying that Kimberley Locke is awesome. She is my favorite. Ruben has been replaced with Locke. Her voice is just amazing, and keeps progressing week after week. I'm sure she'll get a singing contract even if she doesn't win the competion.

Speaking of fat fetish, Frenchie was my all time favorite, but she got the boot. Frenchie's voice is just simply amazing. I have many songs from her American Idol showing and some from other places. Just simply amazing. I can't wait to hear more from her. Simon has already signed her.

I'll admit it...I've watched. :) I tuned in originally to watch Simon tear up the crappy people who auditioned, but got sucked in to watching every week when I heard Ruben sing. He is amazing! I too was also extremely impressed this week with Kimberly Locke. Very impressive performance! (Agreed with the last post about Corey....some very nice high notes, but his overall technique was lacking at best)

If Ruben wins, I'll buy his CD, which is very rare for me to do. Out of 1000+ CDs in my collection, only 10-20 are pop. Less than 75 have vocals at all! :)
