Shuttles: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

The Good:
With shuttles, I found that now you can put a 'catch chain lift' on your second spike to bring the train all the way to the top of the second spike on ride recreations for Boomerangs, Invertigos, and GIBs. The trick is that you have to put enough chain where the train would start to slow to kick back, but after a piece or 2 of chain, some regular un-chained track for the train to be lifted to. After it gets to the end of the chain, and, if you only put enough track to cover the train, it will fall backwards.

But be careful, if you put too much chain on the second spike, the train will fall off and crash.

The Bad:
I don't like how shuttles that have reverse incline shuttle launches shoot outta the back of the station. Not very realistic. Also, the train dosen't go back thru the station if you have a back spike. This is unrealistic for Veko shuttles, and you can't even make a correct Anton Shuttle. We're back to RCT1 again, ARrrgh!.

The Ugly:
Looping coasters. They don't have the supports on the loop that was in RCT1 and 2 that make it look like an Anton, and it dosen't have the big, bulky breaks either. I can live with this, but please fix it, Frontier!:(

I can't get the damn game to turn on so consider yourself lucky.
Ride of Steel I'm in the same boat... The game loads to the main menu, I can select from there, but any further and my computer crashes back to the desktop IN SAFE MODE!!! Then I have to reboot. This game LOOKS like a lot of fun, but what a piece of garbage... I want my money back. Any ideas on how to either try to get a refund or make the game work?

But then again, what do I know?

All these people who say they are having problems running the game. I'd love to know what system specs you are all running.
K, here ya go... 1.8G AMD Athlon, 1024meg RAM, Windows XP. Only POSSIBLE thing that could be causing it in my computer is the video card cuz I'm not real sure what it is... But at the same time, I've NEVER had a problem with any game before. So now, Mr. McColl, I'd LOVE for some advice to make the damn game work...

But then again, what do I know?

Actually a vast majority of issues are due to the vid card.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that as the problem - figure out which card you have and let us know. I'm willing to bet that's the source of your issues with the game.

Ross, don't be an ass and just assume that everyone has a crappy computer. I've been through too much trouble for this damn game. Let me tell you what has happened:

1. I bought the incomplete electronic version online which I had to go through the process of begging for a refund.

2. I bought the retail version at EB.

3. I buy a video card which STILL doesn't help the game go faster, I guess it's the processor speed.

4. I get a new Dell computer, 160 GB memory, a ATI 9800 Pro Video card. I got it to run 2 times and it worked GREAT. But the game now keeps saying "Unable to Authenticate CD" and then "Please insert the original copy of the CD".

5. I went back to EB and spent 25 minutes begging for an exchange. They gave it to me even though I lost the reciept (go figure, I keep every other one)

6. I come home, reinstall it with the new cd. SAME MESSAGE

I am SO PISSED right now. *** Edited 11/9/2004 9:59:45 PM UTC by Ride of Steel***

Have you tried Atari's support, Ride Of Steel?

That's certainly not a hardware issue - epecially as it worked once or twice.

Ride of Steel's avatar
Yes I have. They gave me one idea about running MSCONFIG and disabling all start up programs that may interfere. I emailed saying that STILL didn't work and have yet to get a response.
I run on this: AMD Duron 1800 (1.8 Ghz) 256 MB or RAM, Windows XP, 16 bit compatible sound card, 64 MB RADEON 7000, and 9.0c Direct X. I seem to have no problems at all , does seem to lag at times, but I'm getting an upgrade around christmas to a 2400 XP (2.4Ghz) theres a way to optimize your computer for performance, I wrote it in a previous post somewhere.
lol 64meg Radeon 7000. Nice one ;)

Shane if you don't know what video card you've got it's likely to be that.

Rideofsteel. Similar errors come up on other games, a simple google search revealed a list of possible answers including having any CD burning or Virtual Drive software (such as DAEMON tools or Alcohol).

No need to immediately assume i'm being cocky just because I asked what system specs you were running I was talking generally as 90% of the people who have had problems running the game are running poor system specs. Especially GFX card.

Ross I apologize for lashing out at you. I just think I read it wrong. I've spent to much time at the Atari forums with replies to those "I NEED HELP" messages saying "YOUR COMPUTER IS CRAP". Sorry I know you were only trying to help.

Maybe my CD burning program is why it isn't working.

Shane: Click start, run, then type in dxdiag and press OK... the panel that comes up will display your video card plus plenty of other multimedia-related hardware and drivers.

Edited for clarity...

Did you try adjusting the video acceleration settings?

If video acceleration is all the way maximum, try going all the way down to Basic accelerator features only. If that works, try incrementing for better performance until it gets unstable again.

nvidia agp grafics card, win me 128 mb

do I even have a chance the game will work

Shane: i got my money back for it. they didn't even put up a fuss over store policy.
I'll wait til they fix it. when the patch didn't work, me, game and 'puter went to best buy. they hooked it up and checked my system. they said it should run fine. no upgrades needed. that said, i got a refund and had a nice talk (no sarcasm intended) w/a mngr who was just as bummed as most of us. He told me he'd love it if it were a upgrade issue, but he wasn't gonna sell me something i didn't need. (damn nice to see that in this day-and-age!)Best Buy took it up a few notches for me, which is nice.

I talked to an IT guy here at work, showed him the specs and he recommended this card.

Video card:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=14-123-135&depa=1

ABIT ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, DVI/TV Out, 8X AGP, Model
"R9200SE-DT" -RETAIL

Its about $45 or $50 if you order it through newegg.com. However, they are VERY slow at shipment at that website. I ordered mine a week ago and it has still not shipped!

Lord Gonchar's avatar
The ATI 9200 is lower than I'd be willing to go. That's a pretty old card.

I snagged a 9600 a few weeks before the game and I wish I had gone with something a little newer.

Never had a time problem with Newegg - in a week, my stuff is usually in my PC (and that's with standard shipping) - weird.
