Shuttle operation-flywheel vs drop weight

Gotta love the English language. I'll leave that one up to you. ;)

in the flywheel operation...where was the weight that dropped located? was it under the station so as to be hidden? is it loud? i grew up with SFGAm and tidal wave, but was too young to ride.

I am Turbo.
Ah... trick question! There are TWO counterweights on the weight drop model... the propulsion counterweight is located in the tube underneath the forward spike. The other counterweight is located aft of the station, but it only serves to keep tension in the cable itself, not to power the launch.

So there's probably a counterweight on the flywheel models as well...

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

The weight that dropped thrusting the train was located in the tower holding up the front spike. The weight was attached to a wagon that would flush up against the back of the train.

The videos on that site offer another look at back "spikage"...I can also vouch for Gurnee letting theirs go up most of the way. I remember that like it was yesterday. All we can do is get to SFKK and see how they are running her now! :D

I think the tour guide on the Monte Tour at Solace said that Knott's lost the key to turn on those brakes. He also said that they don't intend to find out how to activate those brakes. One thing I found interesting was that Shawarzopf built many bnrakes into the shuttle loops.

Lost the key? Sounds like they're seeing how much leg-pulling they can get away with.
