Shockwave at Six Flags Great America

Lift hill as in track is gone, or lift hill track and supports gone? Also, is the piece of track still up there at the top of the first track?

I also liked Shock Wave, but lets face reality, the park would not take a roller coaster down and relocate it within the same park. Especially when that ride is unpopular due to roughness and head banging.

there aint no lift hill anymore. empty spot in the sky now. all supports down.

So has construction of the new ride started, or are the track pieces still sitting in the parking lot?

The Beast, at night, Nothing better.

They will not start construction on the new ride until they have finished dismantling Shock Wave and hopefully tearing up the parking lot.

I wonder why they are taking so long to dismanlte it? Not that I mind. I wish they would keep it and intertwine the new ride with shockwave, now that would be cool.

Anyway, I think they should just add an extra turn after the first loop and make it the same as Viper at SFMM. It would make it a little better not as rough. That idea is proably better than the original Devils Curve idea. Thats the only reason why I didnt love Shockwave.

Agreed, I was thinking the same thing. Plus that first loop looks awesome behind condor. But it really doesn't look like we'll see ShockWave ever run again at SFGAM, imo it will probably end up with Dracen Fire, Wind Jammer, and Thunder Bolt in coaster heaven :-(

I think the chain lift is gone (sarcasm)

If you haven't heard Shock Wave will not be going to the Big Easy. Joker's Revenge from SFFT will. It is to be renamed the Jester, however it will still go backwards there.

That and the left-hand turn after the third loop—extra banking on that turn would have relieved the coaster of those excess lateral g's.

I agree—the new coaster's location near Shockwave could very well have increased Shockwave's ridership, just as Deja Vu's location increased the ridership of Demon across the midway.

I wonder how Fright Fest was? That term could never be more appropriate—with Big Blue no longer standing there, that area had to have looked a lot like a ghost town.

I'll add to the severe proof of Shockwave's headbanging even though I have not experienced it firts hand. Two summers ago I was at SFNE and in line for Cyclone some 30-sumthing lady was talking about Mind Eraser and said "it wasn't as bad as this blue ride, Shockwave sumthing, out near Chicago." LOL, made no sense adding this to the thread, but w/e, kinda proves that some of the gp have some kinda idea about rides thousnads of miles away...

It would be cool if they did relocate it at SFGAM. Maybe they could do a little reprofiling and smoothin out the midcourse brake section.

They could then rename it "After Shock"

Photonix...

I reference Jeff (as well as the numerous people who have already answered your speculation)...

If they had even the slightest intention of keeping the ride at the park, they'd build the new flyer somewhere else and keep Shockwave where it is. Never going to happen.

The very notion of this idea is ridiculous its kind of like that rumored completely glass-encased underwater coaster.

That would be kind of cool! Not very practical, but very cool...

I'm actually glad they're nixing it. The whole layout took up way too much space with not enough track. Plus, you have to factor in the whiplash-head-slamming corkscrews. Last time I went to SFGA, I got the worst headache and blacked out from this ride; it pretty much ruined my whole day there. I hope Shockwave NEVER returns. I hope they burn the track and throw the hexed ball of steel in the middle of the ocean. I then hope an asteroid hits the exact spot in the ocean where it rests, and blows the pile of Shockwave trash to little pieces of steel CRAP!
