Shockwave at Six Flags Great America

November 11, 2002

As of November 7th 2002, the idea of reconstructing the ShockWave at Six Flags, Great America, has not been completely ruled out. We were told on this day by a park official, that the ride will be stored at the park indefinitely.Everyone interested in keeping the ride at great america, please call, write or email the park. ( In care of Jim Wintrode only)

Thanks

Suzanne Merz and Harley Wuollet. ShockWave enthusiasts.

If they had even the slightest intention of keeping the ride at the park, they'd build the new flyer somewhere else and keep Shockwave where it is. Never going to happen.

I still say my prediction is this thing shows up next year at Jazzland. Not that I have any knowledge of this, it's just a hunch.

I did mail them about the removal of SW, I got a letter back that basicly said tuff luck. It wont be resurrected. Besides where would they put it?

I think they should assemble the parts into a big rollercoaster statue and throw the thing in a lake and make it a fountain.

oh yeah - and paint it purple.

I'm basically guessing at this point it'll end up at Jazzland or it'll end up nowhere. Most of the parks with enough room for a 150+ steel coaster already have one.

It could be shipped to SFGAd to let the monkeys crawl over, just like they did with old GASM track.

Is Shockwave completely dismantled as of now?

Just curious to see if there is anybody that knows. I would imagine that it would be seeing as how they have the new Beemer to put up.

Honestly, they will not rebuild Shockwave there. Take a look at two major factors:

1) It's Declining popularity: Every time I have been to the park between the year 2000 and current, there has been no more than a 5 minute wait for the ride, even on crowded days.

2) It's rough physical trait: It threw patrons head around so much. I have heard people mention numerous times after the ride was over that they wanted pain reliever(myself included).

It does not make much sense to rebuild a ride that will not increase attendence. That is also a large waste of good money that could be spent improving other areas of the park (such as flat rides....).

Yep...thats the way it works with all parks. We went to tear down a huge ride only to move it to another part of the park so we can build a new ride. When it would just be easier to relocate the new ride. Shockwave is on its way to another park. Its anyones guess at this point where its going. Look at the bright side though, at least it didn't join Drachen Fire.

I used to think Shockwave was headed for New Orleans, but with the removal of Taz's Texas Tornado...

I'm hoping that BullGuy is suggesting Taz to Nawlins', the Tasmanian Devil transforming magically to the Acadian Devil. Just sounds SO much better than Shockwave at Jazzland....since the Big Easy is *only* a 12-hour drive....

But either is *doubtful* IMO, what with the Beemer they're already getting having multiple inversions....time will tell...

ShockWave, will sleep with the fishes....Davie Jones' Coaster, right next to his locker...

Great America doesn't have an email where you can send them comments.

Before everyone gets all mad about Shockwave, let me remind you that they wouldn't remove it unless they wanted to place something better there. Personally, I hated Shockwave. When I went on it, I got the worst headache and blacked out. Superman will be awesome! I hope they spread around Superman like the did with Batman. I don't think they should keep it at all. Because, really, the only reason they're dismantling it in the first place is to make more room in the park. They'd have no where to stick it. It's gone.
Drove by today. Lift hill is gone. Loop is still standing. wonder why they are waiting on that.
Lift hill as in track is gone, or lift hill track and supports gone? Also, is the piece of track still up there at the top of the first track?

In response to the original post:
I also liked Shock Wave, but lets face reality, the park would not take a roller coaster down and relocate it within the same park. Especially when that ride is unpopular due to roughness and head banging.

Why don't they just send it over to SFNJ, rebuild it, and name it Great American Scream Machine II. lol

Yet...

I prefer the pears in the heavy syrup. They're just good.

do not start anything about Drachen Fire...i am still quite sour about that......:(

i really have no prediction as to where it would go, although it just strikes me odd that they'd move such a massive steel looper...i know a few Arrow corkscrews have been moved around, would this be the first of the megaloopers to go the same way? but, if it can be done, it would most certainly make a great addition to whatever park it goes to, given it gets some much needed care im sure:)

Tim....who proudly admits shedding a tear the day they started to dismantle the sky blue masterpiece that towered over Williamsburg, VA....RIP Drachen Fire :(
