SheiKra (BGT) Construction Update

Five months ahead of time, I guess this question qualifies as a serious long shot - but has anyone heard an actual planned date in May when the ride is expected to open?

I dont think an exact date has been set yet unless I've missed something.
Infact I'm trying to find out when it does exactly open as well.
I will be going to Florida in June(Looks like First 2 weeks of June or last 2 weeks of June)

Although I am probably being paranoid, does anyone know if it will definatly be ready for the start of June at least as I am trying to plan the trip so it will definatly be open when I go.

Oh well, here's hoping :)

No one knows *definitely* at this point when it will be open, not EVEN the park, LOL...

The latest literature from the park states "Opening May '05", so I wouldn't ASSUME that the ride will be open before May 30 (i.e., don't make plans based on SheiKra being open before then). All that being said, since our schools have been getting out kinda early (mid-late May), I think the park would LIKE to have the ride running by May 15-ish...

The ride will have to go thru normal testing, etc., and get certified...meaning needed corrections and such would have to be made PRIOR to certification....of course, she *is* a Beema, so I wouldn't expect those kinds of delays...

...based on my observations of the State of FL bureaucracy, however....;)

edit: D'Oh, my pet calendar tells me there's 31 days in May...:)

Great new update from Johnny Upsidedown...

http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/sheikra.html

The coaster's REALLY coming along with all of the second verticle drop done and about 1/3 of the first drop done. Looks like all the track should be in in about a month or less. Enjoy.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Saw the coaster at the park Friday. Its so much bigger than I thought, really looks frightning.
Absolutly stunning!

This has to be B&Ms best work todate and if they keep this trend, i can't wait to see whats in store for the future.

This is one B&M i wouldn't mind one bit if it was cloned somewhere closer to me like So.cal ;O) Anyways have to start making plans for a trip to Florida, since i know a beautiful Dive Machine like Sheikra is not happening anytime soon here in cali:O(

^it looks frighting in a good way in the construction pics i could just imagine it in person ......drools,wets pants, faint and that's before even riding it lol *** Edited 2/27/2005 12:16:12 AM UTC by westcoaster man***

So, that means that other than the initial drop, there's not much left to do... sweet!
INSANE.

Looks like all the track should be in in about a month or less. Enjoy.

I think you will find track work finishes within the next week as only the first drop needs finishing(Please correct me if I am wrong)

Looks like they are well ahead of schedule anyway and Should easily reach its may opening. I cant wait to experience this in June when I go back to Florida, I will plan to go on a weekday too to keep the crowds down a bit hopefully.

Also silly question, but I dont suppose BGT will put in an SRQ will they??? Oh Well it was only wishful thinking :D

Wow! This is really looking cool. I have to say that I haven't been that impressed or that excited about many B&M installations lately, but this one has really grabbed my attention!

I just hope it doesn't end up being as "tame" as other recent B&M's. Still looks like it could be good fun though!

200 ft pretty much straight down with those trains, I doubt there will be anything tame about this ride. The splashdown could slow the pacing down a bit during the final run before the brakes though. I'm interested in how wet this ride is gonna get you. I personally think it will be a refreshing addition in that florida heat.
I could be wrong, but I thought this had been discussed, and that the water doesn't actually hit the passengers?

I doubt the trains even touch the water. Like its been said before, its like Hulk.

No, the trains do hit the water. On the last row, there are scoops under the train that will drag in the water, slowing the train down and causing a huge water splash designed to spray water onto people in the splash zones but not on the riders.

Even more great pics taken from very close up. Looks like the ride tracking should probably all be in by the end of the week if it isn't already done. Won't be long before we see this thing making test runs and when that happens, the time for us to try this baby out won't be far behind. It would be nice to see this coaster spark a surge of new B&M Dive Coasters in the US. I mean, Oblivion opened quite some time ago and it's been this long since we've seen one in the US. I'd love to see more in the future!

They sure do know how to build great coasters at Busch parks.

Down is the new up.
I've been wrong before, but I'd swear there are LSM's in this picture... Hope they never have a power outage. *** Edited 3/2/2005 9:16:45 PM UTC by rOLLocOASt***
They look like wood planks to me...

Yeah, I think your right.
Yet another http://www.bgtguide.com update...

The drop is completed.. and only a little bit of track (what i can tell.) remains to be installed....
