Shapiro says significant change in store for Six Flags

Mark Shapiro has been chief executive of Six Flags for a little over 24 hours, and already the ideas are flying. He's talking about collaborating with Microsoft on creating an Xbox "village." Maybe he'll ask "Nightmare on Elm Street" creator Wes Craven to design a haunted house for the chain's 29 theme parks.

The company also said that no formal bids for the company were made, and will therefore the board has decided not to sell the company.

I agree that freshly painted rides and buildings makes the entire place look that much better. I think of how bad the coasters at SFAW used to look. They were all covered with rust and the paint was peeling in the spots where there wasn't rust starting. They went in there with some paint, and all of a sudden, the coasters looked great again. It says alot to the customer, without costing alot.

I also know that some of the SF parks that have not recieved major attractions in the past few years have spent some money on painting, signage, and also on landscaping. Maybee they can't get a new coaster to spice up the park atmosphere, but they sure can do so with new landscaping and new looking rides!! It may not bring people back in droves, but it definately has them saying "What a nice clean park. I could go there again."

And in the end, isn't that what it's all about?
