SFoG / Wild Adventures - worth a road trip from Orlando?

I didn't realize there was a hotel within walking distance of the park. Proof that the area can support one, because, well...it's there.

There are at least 2, maybe 3? ;)

Granted, Atlanta isn't pulling in as many people as the NYC Metro area...wait...nevermind.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I would not recommend staying at a hotel right by the park. While the park is great, the immediate surrounding area of it is pretty seedy. If you go a little bit west of the park they have alot of hotels without having to worry about getting your car broken into.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

^ Always a feature I look for in my hotels. Seriously. Especially since there's a good chance the rental car (see, i'm getting the hang of this strange language you call 'American' ;) ) will be holding our entire luggage for the night, since we'd be visiting only briefly.....

I've considered Tampa, my only issue there is the additional hour and half to two hours drive time to get up to GA.

The rental company charge have confirmed the extra charge for one-way, too much to make it worthwhile, therefore the road trip from/to Orlando it will be.....

I figure on sleeping on the flight over (yay for the ability to sleep anywhere at a moments notice), which should give me a good five to six hours drive time on landing at MCO, which hopefully puts me somewhere between Vienna and Macon around midnight, perfect timing to grab a motel and crash till 8am, breakfast then straight on to SFoG.

A friend of mine stayed at one of those close-by hotels during Spring Fling a couple years ago and his car was in fact broken into. We stayed slightly further down the road by the Waffle House (I think it was a La Quinta) and were fine though.

What about round trip to/from Atlanta, Barry? That way you'd save yourself the drive to SFOG after the long flight and could save it for the following day. Just a thought. I wouldn't be surprised if Orlando flights were cheaper though. There's always Jacksonville too. Gator gets good deals out of there from time to time.

I know plenty of people that have stayed at the Wingate beside the park with no problems. I don't usually stay near the park myself but hats because I like to explore atlanta.

You know, I hadn't thought of that... So, for arguments sake, since it's too early to get tickets for next year, i've used this year's dates as an equivalent journey....

...and it's about the same. Damn good thinking there.....

Sadly there's no direct flights to Jacksonville.

There is a Motel 6 a few miles west of the park. When I go, that's probably where I will stay. It's just a place to sleep to me. I find most Motel 6's clean and inexpensive.

Plus, the money that I will save on a room can be spent on Flashpass. ;)

You can go to SFOG and not need a FlashPass to enjoy your day. Another reason it's such a nice park. :)

^Last time I was at SFOG - I tried out the coasters that were new since the last time I was there; Scorcher and Goliath. Nice for B&M... And another Batman. The ACME mine train coaster operation halted b/c an employee was leaning on the E-STOP button! Then got one ride on Scream Machine (where there was 1 train running and a ride operator that insisted they didn't have a second train) and GA Cyclone (which was incredible in 1990 and now was a fight to survive; re-profiled and slow too). Dahlonega Mine Train was a blast - as before.

My friends that joined me wanted to ride Goliath, so I gotta second ride on that (where we were met by power crazy ride ops). Also, Ninja (ouch). Didn't wanna mess with Deja Vu at the time (after dealing with it's twin here in Gurnee).

This left me spending most of my time on Mind Bender - 15 rides in the morning and 10 after the afternoon storm. I was a happy camper :) The park seemed like a different place from before - but Mind Bender... ahhhhhh..... Looking forward to trying out DDDive, too.

Wild Adventures was a nice (nearly deserted) stop. As others have said - you can be out of there in under 2 hours, unless you are having fun and want to stay longer.
