SFNE Cyclone completely re tracked for 2002.

For those of You who didnt know, Cyclones first drop DID go all the way to the ground when it first opened. It stayed that way for only a year I think then Riverside altered it. The reason why...Like Darkridedan said OUCH!
I think only a few more sections will be re-tracked. Maybe a few parts of the second half of the time. This is all due to the new PTC trains. They are so heavy that their wieght tears up the track.  I'll take PTC trains over an insane ride anyday, IMO. My prediction is a few mroe sections will be re-tracked and then painted to match the rest of the ride.
I atteneded the Supermania on saturday and must say that retracking or not Cyclone is still and intese woodie...riding first car early that cold morning wasnt that thrilling but try around 9:00pm in the last car...OUCH!

No no no... :)   That drop NEVER went all the way to the ground.  If you do some research, you can find construction pics, with Bill Cobb talking about it and about the first drop/double-down.

Oh...well someone told me..that liar. well do you or does anyone else have any constuction photos?
anyone? Any links to the sites?
Cyclone could/should be a great coaster.  However, I'm not a big fan of it in its current form.  As a rule, I love wooden coasters.  I find Mean Streak at CP, which has a reputation for roughness, to be quite comfortable to ride.  But, the Cyclone is another matter...

Last year, in our visits to SFNE, the coaster was hardly smooth, but this year it seemed even worse.  All they succeeded in doing was butchering the first drop.  I would love to see the Cyclone's drop restored.  (I believe the original track is still there below the new, complete with rails.)

The real question that I have is:  What is the real reason for the degradation in ride quality on the coaster over the years?  Maintenance issues?  Not enough grease?  Different rolling stock than it was designed for?  Or, something else?
