SFMM Psyclone History

I was wondering if any buzzer out there is able to give me a complete history of this ride. I mean, when did they start to ruin it? Everyone seems to know when the Mean Streak started down the road to nowhere, but I don't hear much about SFMM's greatest mistake. Like I mentioned in another thread, this ride has really gone South, but since I was not an "enthusiast" until about 6 months ago, I was not aware of when this coaster fell into its current state.

I remember it being a great ride its debut season, and a few years after, now I won't ride, unless it's a walk-on.

Gotta ride 'em all!
I don't know too much about the history of the ride, but I would have to agree that unless it's a walk on, I will stay away from that ride because my ribs were injured while holding up my hands coming up from the first drop. Everyone on the ride was complaining it was WAY too rough, and several people were also complaining of hurt ribs, arms, necks, etc. It was my first time on the ride, and I can definately tell you that I will steer clear of that ride from now on...unless there's no one in line...:) Peace.
Do they have alot of trims on this ride? I know it was one of the elite coasters when it first debuted but I guess its just another one to add to the list that just doesnt deliver anymore. I did enjoy watching the Griswalds riding it with John Candy in National Lampoons Vacation. (WALLY WORLD RULES!!!!!!!) MARTY MOOSE!!!

"DONT FIGHT IT, RIDE IT",,,,RAGING BULL
Well, the ride as I remember it has always been bumpy. But, it was bearable until about 1996. Then to make things worse, Premier decided to add trim brakes and slow the lift hill to an almost stop. But the ride was it's best before the Northridge earthquake. They really need to get rid of the ride, it almost feels unsafe when you ride it. I really think that a shotty job was done building the ride because when you come off the ride and walk down the exit path, the structure shakes violently.

Chitown, when Vacation was filmed, the Psyclone had not yet been built. Perhaps you are thinking of Revolution and/or Colossus?

Oh, my bad, I did get it confused with Colossus. Dont know what I was thinking.
I agree with Superbatboy, I remember being very excited to ride it on it's opening season(since all the promo pix were of the Texas Giant, didn't know any better at the time!)and being very underwhelmed by it. Typical Dinn/Summers mess, first drop was always great, but the rest has always been boring with airtimeless drops and banked slow fan turns, nothing even close to the original. And just like any other woodie that doesn't receive proper maintanence, has just gotten rougher and worst every year since.

But I have to disagree about the earthquake theory. I always point out that up here at Santa Cruz, we had a similiar size quake back in 1989, that was centered just 11 miles from the Boardwalk. The city of Santa Cruz basically took a direct hit, wiped out the entire downtown, but the only damage to the boardwalk were the old pool building and the stage built out on the beach. There was no damage at all to the then 65 year old Giant Dipper. Just rode it last Saturday again with Florida Flyer, at 76yrs old, still glass smooth and a completely fantastic awesome old woodie.

Don't blame an earthquake for Psyclone's current condition. Ask anybody, most Dinn/Summers woodies haven't aged well and were poorly built. Combine with lack of proper maintanence on SFMM's part, and you have the mess today that is Psyclone. Burn the frik'n thing down I say, I'll bring the marshmellows!
I don't think it is SFMM's fault how Psyclone turned out. It is their fault for buying a poor product from the beginnig. The Dinn/Summers coasters are just POOR.
