SFMM in 2002

Riddler's Revenge-Can You Stand It?
Has anyone seen all the adevertisments for SFMM, even on the website they are boasting the fact that it will claim the title "most coasters in one park" Along with saying it's gone from theme to xtreme, something big should happen next year. Saying they don't care, i think is wrong. As long as the coasters open this year they will still have the record.
Didn't Stengel basically spell out in an interview recently that he was designing a wooden coaster with Intamin that will be installed in California? I swear I read that somewhere, maybe it was here or somewhere else. If this is true, then the likely candidates would be: SFMM, PGA, SFMW or even Bonfante. I'd would bet on SFMM getting it if it's true. :)

If I remember correctly, it's being designed for somewhere here in the US, I don't think he specified a state. He DID say his next project was in California, but I'm not sure that would be that wooden coaster or not.

There is no such thing as inner peace. There is only nervousness and death.
Ok one they are not taking guests away from each other(sfmm cedar point) but they are using the most rollercoasters in the park as a marketing campaign to hurt rival parks. Cedar point having the title takes guest from pki to the point. Having titles like that grabs the market from places like central ohio and indiana.

We're all forgetting what Cedar Point is up to right now. I have a feeling, that SFMM will do what someone said and work on the park more and making it all pretty because with DevaVu and X, they will be happy for a while. Cedar Point is thinking on either how to invert something like Millenium Force or a set of dueling coasters, perhaps some form of steel this time. Cedar Point has to have a lot of ideas spinning around while SFMM works only on Deja and X.

Two cents from Brock

I think SFMM Will get a Woodie
Heck, Cedar Point may have a tie for most coasters if Deja Vu doesn't open. (Only for 2001) What SFMM should really do is put in a great selection of flat rides like CP.

I completely agree, SFMM does not have a great selection of flat rides. I love their two flume rides though, especially Log Jammer. Need to be a little more themed though imo. About 6 or 7 new flat rides would really be a great addition imo, but I would really love that Stengel wooden coaster. Actually, I would rather see PGA get rid of Grizzly for the Stengel, but that's wishful thinking. ;)

You can count on the fact that MM is working on a lot more than only Deja Vu and X. It's also putting in a fourth attraction for the 2001 season, near the newly-renamed Arrowhead Splashdown. Unlike CP, it's not MM's style to take long breathers between coasters. In the last ten years, they've been putting coasters in at a much faster rate than CP, and there's no reason why they'd stop now. Sure, the economy might be slowing down a bit, but it's no slower now than it was in the mid-nineties, when MM was building a coaster every other year at least... *** This post was edited by biggs on 6/29/2001. ***

Intaminrocks: Yes, I consider any coaster with overhead track to be an "inverted" coaster. I understand that Arrow Suspendeds are in a slightly different category, but it is close enough for me.

Actually, PKI already has 4, so "fahgetabowdit."

"How many coaster 9 I think Cedar Point 14, Magic Mountian is sneaking up on Cedar Point. I think they may come up with something higher than Steel Dragon 2000 with X, Deja Vu, Goliath that would put Magic Mountian on the spot for americas rollercoast! Any reaction?

I have a couple of thoughts...
1)I can see Sfmm competeing with DCA but,i can't see them competeing with CP because, as someone else has mentioned, the two parks have major distance between them and i doubt CP is taking a whole lot of business from Sfmm and, vice versa.
2)Let's look at FL,they have BG, Disney,IOA but, there is no SF park in FL.SF would be crazy to try and compete with any of those places. My point being,Tourists flock to FL and CA for vacations because of the weather so,SFmm probably has tourism on it's mind and,the fear of loosing their business to DCA if they don't get some impressive marketing campaign.
3) I know i am not the only one who knows that coaster enthusiasts make up a small percentage of park guests so,i doubt very much the record has anything to do with impressing coaster enthusiasts and, coaster enthusiasts are probably the ones who are most impressed by a parks coaster count and, they are the ones who will go far and wide to visit a park with alot of coasters.
Geographically speaking,CP is out of reach to alot of poor and middle class general public(cost of living is differant in some states and a big factor here) and,i bet there alot of people in Ohio who can't afford to travel out of state to so,alot of the GP take what is given and are happy with it.What is going on at a park in another state is not bothering them one bit.

I think the whole competeing thing is based on the park that's moving into the their state/area that could actually harm their park attendance.Imagine if Disney came to the New England states? You bet your bippy SF would step up to the plate and start improving so they wouldn't loose business to them!Disney is based on family and that makes up the larger majority of park patrons. It(the coaster record) seems to be a bigger deal to the coaster enthusiast who feel the need to campaign for their homepark.

Six Flags need to put more spend in maintenance, big time.......... MM has a fantastic line up, and has me very interested (I live in UK) CP, well, yawn!!! But , when I went to Ca last year, I was surprised at the state of the rides. Kong at MW badly needed a paint job, and it was really rough, Medusa rocked, but it was brand new, Boomerang was closed, and OK, Roar was good. At MM, Colossus needs attention, Revlution needs attention, Psyclone was dead rough, and do I need to mention Flashback??? A spokesperson said they weren't running Flashback cause the waterpark complained at the noise it made,a pathetic excuse, esp since its still not been moved if this is the case. IMO, MM rules, but a break from new rides, and employ more mechanics!!
