SFMM employee struck and killed by coaster today

Plus humour is used as a way to grieve by many, unable to cope with the concept of someone dying, especially through their own fault. It's a "Laugh to stop from crying" reaction that many people including myself have used in similar situation.

Whether it was accidental or suicide I still feel very sorry for the friends and family of this poor woman, and my thoughts go out to them in this time of trouble.

I also can't understand thats there are still people who think that the parks should take responsibility for these accidents. Thats like someone being in a car crash and blaming the manufacturer of the car for not making it safe enough.

Do we know that the crew was aware of her being in the restricted area at the time of the accident?

It says that she walked across the track instead of through an exit gate...does anyone know from first hand experience where this would be located at and why she would pick to walk across the track rather than use the gate?

What would possess someone to do something this stupid unless they wanted to get hit? I'm sorry if this is insensitive, but this one could be in the running for the Darwin Awards.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
I was there, but not at the ride. When I heard about it i was scared. They wouldn't say much though about it also how stupid can u get. I'm 14 and might not know much. but hey how stupid can you get. I think if it was like winter or something they would close for much longer than 2 days. My cousin was working there today. He didn't know much either. He was working at colouses when it happened. scary

Who ever said coasters were dangerous?
About not seeing humor in the situation, I don't see it either. In fact, there is NO humor in it at all. Loss of human life is never funny, regardless of what some twisted people on here say. I personally think those comments need to be nuked and possibly even the poster who made them. Do what you want though mods...

I've often wondered from time to time, how to write good poetry- and make it all... Work.
I think the people that get the comedy on the Chappelle Show are the ones more inclined to find humor in death.

Does Wayne Brady gotta smack a *****?

Prayers and thoughts to family..............

I really think we should lock this topic, because although anything roller coaster may intrigue us, someone lost their life.

ABC 7 in so cal just said they'd keep it closed for the weekend for the family, so it'll be back up and running come Monday.
Sad :(

Maybe the humor was uncalled for, maybe it wasn't. But if you don't like it, just move on and don't read this thread anymore.
I think there is no problem making a joke in light of a serious situation, hands down nothing should contend with that. Goddarn don't let the liberal stupid media take over this board also.....
An employee said that the girl NEVER went through the track area during block check. They dispatched one train for safety ride without knowing about her being hit. However, when the safety riders came back, they told panel to E-stop the ride because they saw her while riding. So in essence, no one knew she had been hit until they took the safety ride. So, while they were going up the lift, operators yelled back at the panel to stop the ride. They were later evacuated.

I was on the Scream crew for a very short time. But, I would sometimes go back for the day. Very few times I opened the ride, but when I did, and went to either the block brake or the service brake, I took the appropriate ways to "safely" get to these places. The only time when your that close to the helix, is when your going to block brake. But, your not that close to it. Close enough to react? Sure, its like 10 feet from you. And techically, this ride is not quiet at all. You can definatley hear it.

From what I heard, there were chunks left on the train as it came back. Lots of blood on the track, train, and floor. So sad.

This person is what we call a "global". They come from foreign countries, and they work for a short period of time. There werent any in the operations department last year, but I guess this year they decided to bring them back. About 2 weeks ago, I went on Scream, and I saw the "globals" that they had. They're all from Taiwan, know VERY little english, and probably cant understand it well either. Althought I find this incident incredibly weird, she has been working at Scream since last month, meaning, she went through the necessary training and became a certified operator, also meaning, she knew the nesessary routes to get to the brakes. Was it a suicide? Most likely. Accident? Could be...But nothing should be speculated or ruled until they release their report.

Scream will be back in operation on Monday. Sure it was ready to open later that same day, but, out of respect, theyre opening it tomorrow. *** Edited 4/11/2004 6:05:52 PM UTC by Lnknprk4eva03*** *** Edited 4/11/2004 6:12:58 PM UTC by Lnknprk4eva03***

people you haft to understand that she was a global and more that lickly didnt speak english very well, also when i worked there i was a lead and they always told me when globals came to train them fast, and when you train fast its hard for them to understand.

Im thinking whoever got there first didnt do the gate walk (where you walk in the track area and check all the gates) and right before the safety ride somone send her down there thinking she wasent gonna cross the track. Ive ben on that gate walk and its pretty confuing for the first time she could of not saw the gate and just went to cross the track real quick. ps and by the way the scream trains are very quite.

At SFMM, do they not blow the horn signalling you have 3 minutes to clear the track?
there is a three minute speel along with a two minute and 1minute. but i know from working the speels are not always done corretly somtimes at all it depends on the panel operator. the correct speel goes as follows

"stand clear scream track area scream will be dispatching one fully unloaded train to cycle the track, stand clear"

that speel warns any who be on the track, but keep in mind the women killed most likely didnt speak english very well

Lnknprk4eva03, there could not have been chunks left on the train, she died later at the hospital it says, so if that's true what the news report says, there's hardly any way there could have been chunks on the train unless she was horribly disfigured. And as for you Feirce Pancake...shame on you. If any of your loved ones was struck in the head or anywhere else by a heavy moving object and someone made a joke as raunchy as that one, there is no f***ing way you'd laugh. Don't even try to B.S. me into thinking you would. Anyway, bashing over, there's my two cents. *** Edited 4/11/2004 9:29:00 PM UTC by Stan***
