SFGAm riddle

Does anyone no if the new rollercoaster will be don by next season
Most likely it will be done. It all depends on how long it will take them to remove SW. It should be open by the start of the 2003 season if not alittle later in the season.
If shockwave does go to a new park do you think that it will last them a long time or the park that gets it will keep it for only about 6 years and get rid of it
Usally old rollercoasters that are move from park to park go pretty fast because who wants an old ride. Just look at Z-force it was built at SFGAm then move to SFOG then move agian to SFMM. But maybe Shockwave will be diffrent. And stay at its new home for a long time.
YEah but the reason Z Force was move to SFMM was becuase it was part of that system they had to move it around. Yeah if SW goes some were else i dont think it will stay to long.
Yeah, just look at Z-Force... sitting resoloutly at Majic Mountain for how many years now? The only reason it had three homes was because Six Flags was doing a "ride rotation" thing. When the program ended, Flashback stayed put. Even if the resurected form of this program that Six Flags is tlaking about does catch on, I doubt shock Wave will be moved around too much. It's just too big to be cost effective to put up and tear down a lot. But this is probably a better topic for the Shock Wave deconstuction thread, so, back to typical Great American talk! (i.e.: anything remotely related to the park, including directions on how to get there)
about mid page 16 the whole issue of zoning was brought up. for those that don't know and didn't bother to read the early parts of the thread, SFGA doesn't need ordinaces for any structure under 125 ft. and they cannot use the ordinace they got for SW. they would be two totally different structures and need two totally different ordinaces. but since this will (most likely) be under 125 ft, SFGA doesn't need jack.

Again here is a link to the minutes of the Village of Gurnee Zoning Board from Sept 2000, when they approved DejaVu. It says in the first part of item #3 on the minutes,

Six Flags Great America is seeking to introduce a new roller coaster attraction to replace the existing "Sky Whirl" ride. Such structures are permitted by right up to a height of 125 feet. Those portions proposed to exceed 125 feet must follow zoning procedures for a variation including a public hearing, pursuant to the Conditional Use Permit in effect for the theme park. Structures may not exceed 310 feet in height, i.e. height of the Sky Trek Tower.

Thanks Great America!

Another Update - Drove past the park this morning on the way to work and more track & supports had arrived. Another truck load was on site with the crane unloading. From what I could see the Employee lot is becoming pretty full of Track & Supports. At night it looks like the park turns on a large generator spotlight over where the track is being stored. Almost like a deterant for those who want to linger around the track.

To go back a little bit, I never thought that any of the Batman inverts were looked down upon, they are an incredible ride. I think that Shockwave has run its course and so has GASM. I would prefer the SGADV would have removed Gasm and add the flyer there and themed the area in that general location.

If they theme the area around the flyer with some new flats that might make the clone a little easier to deal with. I also was thinking did anyone complain when SFGAM got Deja vu and V2. I would have accepted them at sfgadv in a heartbeat. I think everyone should be thankful in a time of a money crunch they are spending millions of dollars on a ride to make you time more enjoyable.

back to the support issue... if the thing really was planned for the wizzer area and the supports are constructed that way... could we do a little wishful thinking and hope that SFGAm has to terrain the land where SW sat in order to make those supports fit. (that or just build big footers which was mentioned above)
Remember when Whizzer's plot of land is about as flat as can be? There are some trees and mounds of drit, but other than that it's flat as a board. I don't think it's going to be a proglem.

So.....these supports look like flying coaster supports, I assume?

-----------------
Coaster Counter: 85+...I need to sit down and figure it out :)

Yes you can tell that they are flying coaster supports by the wings painted on them......

Just to add my 2 cents about the support issue, even if the destination had been changed, they can excavate accordinly. That is what has allowed so many coasters to be moved...that and the high footers as mentioned before.

Why do people think this is a great big conspiracy by SFGAM to fool us into thinking Whizzer was gone, and then change it to Shockwave. They announced Whizzer to allow people to get a final ride. Should Shockwave not have been allowed the same? And yes, I realize that a lot of people hated that coaster...but there are many who loved it. I really don't see why SFGAM would even care to make such a huge publicity stunt.

-----------------
Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

Whizzer's plot of land is not hilly compared to what many people would yhink, but to us minwesterners, it's not exactly flat. There are defineite hills: Whizzer actualy cuts into the sides of them on some of its turns. Any coaster that was planned for that plot of land would be designed with supports that wouldn't quite fit on a flat piece of land. That, however, can be changed. And since he hills aren't really that big, it won't be very hard, either.

The reason Shockwave deconstruction started during the season is so next year's coaster could open on time. If Shockwave was open through Fright Fest then the flyer would open later in the year next season- and Great America wants some credability regained that was lost from the Deja Vu fiasco.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Hey, that's just not tue! It's around, oh, 500 to one!

Well if it is a clone, I'd expect it to be done some time in march.
