SFGAm 6/23 Lots of news

Associated parks:
None

Me and my friend got to the park at 9:30. We rode Deja Vu twice. We went over to Giant drop and noticed one of the cars had been removed from the tower. Rode raging bull twice. Went over to whizzer. the third train is no longer on the transfer track. it cars are on the ground, seperated, and sitting on saw horses. Rode twice. They now have sky trek tower music playing on the train. Throughout the day, we talked to nine different ride ops and one security guard. All ten said Whizzer was closing August 1st and being replaced by a B&M flying coaster.

Once again, never take a park security guard or ride op's suppositions as gospel. Noone in the park aside from probably three high-ups know what's going in next year.

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!

Man that must've been something to see that one of giant drop's cars was removed from the tower,on SFA's tower of doom the ride is only operating two cars on the tower with the third always sitting at the bottom and it's carrier stuck at the top but at least it hasn't actually been removed from the tower.

I hope they either fix that piece of junk or get rid of the entire ride maybe replacing it with a gyro drop like the behemoth of a free fall that PKD is getting in 03.

Funny Story about that ride. I've been to SFA probably 15 or 20 times. I've seen that side run once, about a year ago (I think it was early 2001). Well, I got to ride it, and got stuck up at the top for nearly 15 minutes before we dropped. I looked down and there were plenty or mechanics there looking up. I was hoping we'd have to be choppered down or something! :)

Normally, I wouldn't believe ride ops either but all 10 said the exact same thing.

Peabody, about SFA's tower:
I cannot count the number of times I was in the park during the 2000 season. I was there about once a week, often more than that. I *never* saw that side run. Then, when Fright Fest started on a Friday with NO crowds to speak of...they open the final side. I remember thing to myself WHY?!?

I was his friend who was at the park. I usually dismiss ride ops comments but we ask 10 and they all said the exact same thing. This hapenned once before in 2000 when I asked a ride op on viper what was happening in 2001 he said were getting 2 new coasters both shuttles and one would be a new boomerang. Wait what happened in 2001?

Don't fight back just let the ride take controll

I went on June 20th and saw that too, but don't count exactly on Whizzer going away anytime soon. Just because one of the cars on Giant Drop is gone doesn't mean it's going to close, I saw the third train on Demon, Shockwave, and Whizzer all gone from the transfer track. But Whizzer was the only one with the train noticeable anywhere along the ride. They were seperated, yes, but it doesn't mean it's closing. Rumors speculate to much.
The yellow train on Shockwave is back. Yesterday they were using three train operation, but the yellow train was being tested, so they didn't allow riders onto it. I still haven't seen any signs of the third train on Demon...

Would you mind pointing out where I said I thought Giant Drop would close.

Deja Vu, he was not responding to you, he was responding to Batwing Fan....relax.....

Posting, "Me too" like some brain dead AOLer. I ought to to the world a favor, and cap you like old yeller...

Well, that and I was comparing that Whizzer wouldn't close just because one train was gone, thus Giant Drop wouldn't close just because one car gone. That's what I was meaning.
Oh, and the carrier for Giant Drop by the way is still there too, just no car.

I am somewhat believing this know because someone else here and someone else on a different forum said the exact same thing, Whizzer will close August 1st and a B&M Flyer will be in its place. I am also believing it because when I asked a ride op if they were going to tear it down he said yes because it is a mechanics nightmare and it can't run in any type of rain because of the electric lift.

That would be nice. A B+M Flyer. But don't believe them until it is built.

84 coasters in Track Record!! Hypersonic XLC # 100 in July. Waiting for the 305 foot drop tower in 2003. Thank you PKD.

I am a Great America 'lifer', having gone at least once a year since they opened in 1976. I, too, have heard this rumor, and the fact that it is appearing on Screamscape makes more willing to believe it. While a B&M Flyer may INDEED go where the Whizzer is, there has also been some talk from park people that Wintrode (park's GM) hasn't decided yet on location.

One alternate location would use Power Dive's queue line and station for loading, and then have the coaster Fly over Orleans Place and intertwine with Batman the Ride.

I guess we will see, but certainly, if you've followed Great America's history in terms of adding new attractions (just about every other year), then 2003 should see something added.

But then again, ride ops were calling for a Mr. Freeze coaster to be built near Logger's Run for the 1998 season, yet that did not happen. Instead, Raging Bull came.

Who knows?

Raging Bull came in 99

hmm ... i wonder why ...

Another thing about Whizzer, is without it, where's the family coaster? How come they would take it down when people love it so much and, I think it gives so much air when going around on the lift and course, keeping a hot day better.

Well you can forget about a flyer. Since we're all coaster buffs. We all know about Cali's Superman: The Escape. Guess what? They're making a copy of the 400 ft. 100 mph nightmare where Whizzer stands. It's gonna kick some serious coaster butt.

Take it up a notch, Mr. Operator! I wanna feel my brains in my feet!

Try again X. Not going to happen my friend.
