SFGADV B:TR all rusty, why not other coasters...

Rob A. isn't far off. Most amusement parks really do pinch pennies on paint. They buy relatively cheap enamels instead of using an epoxy with a urethane finish coat that would last at least twice as long.
Wouldn't the biggest cost of painting a ride be the labor?
Tell me about it,SFA's Mind eraser needs to be repainted & hasn't gotten a new coat since it opened in 95.

Not only is the paint horribly faded but much like SFGRADV's B:TR the rails are rusting,JJ is also starting to develop rusty rails & a hint of rust on the top of a few supports as well.

Don't forget Kumba at BGT also has extremely rusted rails, why on earth have they of all parks allowed it to get so bad?

The only coasters not rusting at Great Adventure is Superman, and Nitro. Anything older in going to rust, and I think even Nitro has rust. However they have let the rusting on there other coasters to get out of hand.

Even The Chiller is all rusted. I spoke with the parks spokes women on my last visit, and she said that the 2004 is going to be all about qaulity. Which is a great thing! I told Kristen that it was a great idea, and that would be so much more better to see everything in the park 100% more upkept, and to have a better atmosphere then to see a new coaster.

She couldent agree anymore. On a diffrent note. Out of the parks that I have been to most coasters older then four (4) seasons have rust. Its steel. However it woulden't hurt them to maybe buy a better type of paint or to repaint certain sections which is what Great Adventure does on their newer coasters. Exp. Medusa , and Nitro. Out of all the parks I visted I would think Busch Gardens, and Dorney Park had the some of the best visually mainted coasters I ever saw.

In conclusion.... I do think Batman The Ride at Great Adventure needs to be painted so bad its not even a want for the park ,but its a need. It looks so shot. It looks old, faded, and chips of rust hit riders during their ride. I do think they started to paint it during the off season before 2003, but they never finished it. They just did some of the supports in the direction of the second loop, and cork screw areas.

Its a good ride still, and would stand proud with age if it just dident show.

Top Gun at PGA is pretty rusty, and the trains do give you both rust and grease stains in the rain. Ahhh, good times. :)

SFNJ's other track-esthetic issues also happen to be that the paint peels off on the rails and makes the rides look hideous. I think you can see this on Nitro and Medusa.

Steel does not rust. Iron, when mixed with the oxygen in the air oxidizes to form rust. The only coasters that actually have rust are the ones made of iron instead of steel, like Iron Dragon, Iron Wolf et al.

What you're seeing on the coasters therefore is not rust. It is a synthetic material consisting of equal parts latex/methylethylketone/tree bark.

It "drips" on you. That's theming folks. Here is the website of where they order the material...

Hope that helps!

In an odd sort of way I have to agree that the "rusty-ness" of Batman actually fits the themeing of the area. Though in some ways, all of the "junkyard" themeing of the ride has gotten out of hand. However, a nice dark paint job would do the ride some good.

More than painting the coaster, they need to do something about the inside walls, graffiti, and gum. Disgusting!
