SF:ga or cedar point

You will have a better (more 'fun') overall experiance at Cedar Point, since it's more of a resort .. especially if you can devote three or four days. However Six Flags Great America has better coasters. It all depends on what type of trip you're aiming for.

Wouldn't this topic be against the TOS, or something of that nature?

If it were me I would go to CP, sure SFGAM has some good coasters, but half of them are always down. What's the good if they are great but you can never get on. Additionally, lines are always worse at great america.
The only ride at SFGAm that has a downtime problem is Deja Vu, and judging by the end of last season, they're doing a good job of working the bugs out.

I visited the park a dozen times this year, and never saw any ride down all day except Deja Vu. So, what are you talking about? Care to elaborate?

-Nate (who has seen lines at CP that easily rival those at SFGAm)

Nate, I'm with you concerning IW. that is one of the greatest coasters I've ever ridden. sure, it could be smoothed out a little, but I like it just as it is.

and, Gamer, I don't know where you got the idea that half of all GA's rides are always down and its lines are words. as Nate said, Deja Vu (and possibly V2) is the only real coaster with a downtime issue and its really not that big of a deal. it only goes down for a few minutes normally before its back up and running.

as for lines, GA really moves 'em where they can. obviously DV and V2 are going to have long, still lines, but even those aren't too horrible. you must have just visited the park on an off day.

gimmie a hell yeah!

Well like other people said, it depends on the person. I'll come out and say that I think CP is a better package and that I would pick CP over GA this year just for Dragster.

SFGAm is still a great park though. It has IMO the most underrated roller coaster out there, Viper. The compact wooden roller coaster packs a punch! You'll also have S;UF. That's all on top of other world-class rides including one of my favorites, well just look at my signiture (sp?).

Then back to CP, dragster and maggie. Plus MF, Raptor, WT and so on. Better coasters but both parks feature unique (For the most part) coasters. CP has a better atsmophere (sp?) and it is cleaner. Just a personal preference I guess. I would pick CP but then again that's just me...

IMO the choice is very clear, it does not matter what park it is you should always try something new. Expand your horizons, even if you don't like it you won't regret not knowing "what would have happened"
GreenDayKid88: If you've been to CP five times already, the answer is obvious. Never, ever, ever pass up an opportunity to try a new park.

If you ignore MF, TTD and a gaggle of readily rideable spin-and-spues, you could argue that SFGM and CP are pretty comparable. That is, until you stand in a long, slow line and are forced to notice the real difference. But other than the operational deficits, it really is among the best of the best. Enjoy.

My $.02 is First, Take people's OPINIONS as just that. There are many things that skew how an individual views an experience. The people your with, around, and how you your self feel all factor in to your experience. In my experience I'd go with the path not traveled. I have found some of the trips were the new ones. I drove out to CP 4 years ago and hit KW, Sea World and the Pittsburgh zoo from Philly with my girlfriend and her friends. (3 women and 1 man NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again). I had a good time because I didn't let people tell me this was bad of that is bad (oh and I basically ignored the women). I formed my own opinion. Besides how sure are you that you’re not going to get the chance to hit CP?

Just something to add in: SFGam is a smaller park with less rides. Being a very crowded park, many people will flock to rides like B:TR and the lines become extremely long. I know from experience because when we were there in mid-summer, we couldn't even get on B:TR because the lines were all the way out of the queue, and we would have had to wait close to 2 hours probably. Now with S:UF coming out this year, you can probably imagine how bad the lines will be.

On the other hand, when I went to Cedar Point last summer, the only long lines were for MF and maybe WT, and those were about 30 to 45 minutes. Mantis was a walk-on, and Raptor and Magnum had about a 15 minute wait. CP has short waits for the inverted opposed to SFGam which was 2 hour waits. So, if you factor in all the other rides CP has to offer, I'd go with CP.

However, I do agree with a lot of you - you should always try out a new park. The excitement of exploring a new park is like a whole new thrill itself.

What days of the week were you at these parks? If you go to SFGAm on a weekend in the middle of summer, that's what you get. It's one of the busiest parks in the nation, and it shows on weekends. Weekdays are fine, however, especially early in the season. You shouldn't find a wait longer than 30-40 minutes at SFGAm on a weekday in the middle of the summr.

I've never been to CP on a weekend in July or August, but I wouldn't be caught dead there either. CP has a higher attendance than SFGAm, and I can't imagine it's somehow less crowded. For what it's worth, with my fairly limited experience with CP, I've never seen a wait shorter than 45 minutes to an hour for Raptor, and that's been on weekdays.

Hey, it's my home park, and I don't go to the park on weekends in July and August!

Roller Junkie, Raptor and B:tr has two different capacities. Look how short B:TR is compared to Raptor, and plus Raptor has a extra train.
Michigan’s Adventure is another park.
Flabby Lips, SFoG is another park too...but what does that have to do with this topic?

Weekends at SFGAm can be bad I try not to go on Saturdays but sometimes Sundays are less crowed. But this summer it might be diffrent cause of SM:UF. I think Flabby Lips means that Michigans Adventure is a close park but we are just talking about SFGAm and CP so whatever.Oh yeah and Coaster Dude 318 I also love Iron Wolf its such a good coaster.

SFGAm

I was at CP at the end of July on a Saturday and I can't remember for SF:Gam - but it was Mid-Summer, like July as well on a weekend.

My point was that you can either wait 2 hours for SFGam's most popular/main roller coaster, or you can wait 15 minutes for Raptor - the same kind of roller coaster, and wait 2 hours for something bigger and better than SFGam that CP has to offer.

But then again, it all depends on what time you'll be visiting.

I would DEFINITELY go to Cedar Point!

We can sit here and throw around our opinions but the bottomline is, that CP and SFGAm are both world class parks.

I have SFGAm as my backyard park, and I surely wouldnt mind CP up and moving from Sandusky and parking itself in the Chicago area.

With both of these parks at a stones throw, I would be perfectly happy.

I say flip a coin to decide. :)
