SFEG Starts Delivery of TFC

Did a quick drive by of SFEG today and saw a few cranes. Closer look revealed that they were actually unloading some of the support beams and track from an sea/land container. Supports were blue and the track appeared to be red. No camera with me today, so no photos, will hopefully get another drive by later this week w/ camera in tote.

Sorry if this seems like big news to me, but it is. Considering I just moved to Denver from Columbus, OH this past June, there is a severe lack of coasters in the State of Colorado. (at least in my opinion)

Kevin

There is a severe lack in Columbus too ;)

Yeah, but while Ohio has over 40 operating coasters within the state and another dozen within two hours outside the borders, you have to appreciate that.

Whereas in Colorado, there is less than a dozen operating coasters within the state. Forget about driving to a park outside the state for the day too, Worlds of Fun in Kansas is a hike, SFOT is a hike, and those are the only two within an 8 hour drive of town. The one benefit is the CCI being built in Albuquerque, NM at the moment that should be open in the next two months. But even that is a minimum 5 hour drive from Denver.

Kevin

Hey, I was kidding. Anyway, It's good to see TFC (you know, those initials can be interpreted in more ways than one) get setup but I really hope this prompt's Lakeside to add something.

Oh, I take offense to it at all, I am just wanting to ride a coaster real bad right now since snowboard season is coming to an end soon.

I wouldn't count on Lakeside opening up a coaster anytime soon. I was talking to a few people that used to work there and apparently the park really doesn't have any money to afford a new coaster. Also, from what I understand, the lake that is beside the park was used for toxic waste a couple of decades ago and it prevents the park from being sold to another party. About the only option left for the park is either to close or to be managed by a larger company who would be willing to invest some desparately needed money into the park. I will of course be making another trip there and getting a few laps in on Cyclone, that is of course if the park opens for the season. No word if it will or not and their website hasn't been updated since the 2000 season, so it's anybody's guess.

Kevin

That is cool, I can't wait to ride this thing. While it may not look like a lot to some, it looks cool to me. I will probably take some pics this weekend.

As far as Lakeside goes, I doubt that is true about the lake. Lakeside may look run down, but not that bad. I like Lakeside, I prefer it over SFEG. It may not have "all those roller coasters that go upside down" but the Cyclone beats any ride in Colorado. Lakeside doesn't have enough money for another coaster, but they are working on the park. They just rebuilt a whip ride and are opening it this year. I think they are trying to rebuild the park one thing at a time. They are always renovating those buildings according to someone at lakeside who responded to my e-mail. While on the topic, anybody else agree they should remove the old ferris wheel ride?

Thanks for the update, Kevin. Are you sure the track wasn't orange? That's what it was at the factory in Italy. Anyway, the ride sounds great!

As for Lakeside, it seems like advertising could do them some good...

The track has to be orange, that is what color it was in the simulation. The supports are blue.

Lakeside does advertise, at least they did last year. "If your gonna do fun, do it right". There was a bill board that said that. About the only support they get is from the surrounding communitly. I think if they got a commercial, they could definitly improve.

I saw the prototype photos of it when it was overseas, but the supports were definitely dark blue when I saw them today. I'm a bit color blind, but the pics of it overseas looked like light blue supports. Chances of them repainting it before shipping it is a possibility.

Kevin

Yeah, I saw the billboard, but is that really enough?

I agree with you, Lakeside's a great little park, but at times, I actually wish the crowds were bigger!

BTW, what e-mail address did you use? I remember sending them one a long time ago, but never getting a reply.

I was thinking they were kind of going for (shhhh) Bronco's colors....not necessarily COPYING the Bronco's scheme, but seems pretty "reminiscent". Still wish they'd stuck with Zamperla's name....

I sent them a e-mail about 2-3 months ago, and just got a reply last week. I believe I talked to someone named brenda. It is interesting, I asked her about the ownership of the park, and aparently it is a cooperation that has owned since the 1930's. And I guess there is a chance the defunct ferris wheel might open up again some day, I think they should remove it because it is a eyesore to the park. It has historical value I guess.

A billboard isn't enough, if they could get a commercial, it would be a lot better. Nothing as high tech as SFEG new one, just a nice one showing the better sides of the park. They have updated their site, but only the schedules.

The problem with TFC and the commercial SFEG has out right now is that they don't say it opens in late may, so a lot of the GP will show up in April and be pissed it aint open.

It seems impossible that TFC can last for too long as a name. It just doesn't get any less original than that. I'm happy that those of you in Col. are getting a new coaster, but they have to try harder with the name.
I took a bike ride to the park and back today. (36 jiles in 2 hours-not bad) Anyway, I rode right up to the fence where they are building it. Orange track is lying in the parking lot, and they were already starting to set the supports into the footers. I saw this from about 20 feet away, since a bike can get close easier than a car can. It is my belief that this will go up VERY quickly, I'm talking at most 3 weeks. Also, Boomerang was testing and the lights on The Rainbow were on, so the park is getting ready. Only 2.5 more weeks!!! BTW, welcome to Denver Kevin! What we lack in coasters, we make up in ski areas.

If you think Colorado is coaster deficient, try Portland,Oregon. There are only 3 parks in the whole state with 5 coasters between them. The tallest coaster in the state is probably Ripper at Thrillville USA.I am guessing the lift hill is around 40 feet.

A regret I have about visiting Colorado.Back in 1992,I flew to Durango to ride the the last two remaining stretches of the DRG&W narrow gauge steam railroad, the Durango & Silverton and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR as I am also a railfan. On returning to Portland,I had a very long layover at the old Stapleton airport in Denver ,about 4 hours. At the time I did not know about Lakeside or Elitchs Garden. In retrospect,I could have taken a taxi to Lakeside and Elitches and gotten some rides on the late, great Mr.Twister and the Lakeside Cyclone.(long sigh)

I can fix anything.....where is the duct tape?

Lagoon Park is 8 Hours West of Denver, in Farmington, Utah. Lagoon is a lot bigger than Both Eliche's and Lakeside, and we have more thrill rides and coasters.

HurricaneGeauga- Just in case

I believe the name will stick, they already have a cool logo for the coaster and and Elitches doesn't seem to care much bout their coaster names. Twister II? Don't make much sense if you ask me. Plus, why rename a coaster when the GP will always get it correct now.

Why do you say Twister II makes no sense?
Twister II, just think about it. Twister makes sense, Twister II, just think about it, there is no meaning. I dunno...
